I don't know if this was posted before. At least, I could not find it using the "search".

Say you search for MtGox, looking for latest about MtGox, you will get pretty much everything *except* what you are looking for. Sometimes I think it has some sadistic intelligence and guesses what you need to give you something entirely different.

And what is this "relevance"? Doesn't make any sense.

I've always used google for things like this. You can google "mtgox site:bitcointalk.org". But yeah I agree, this SMF forum software is iffy.

I agree, it's not the best search tool, but it usually helps if you know what subforum  the topic you're searching for is in.  I can't count how many times I've searched for something important and then realized it was searching through all "off-topic" topics or something similar.

You can use the google search. This is in fact recommended by the staff.
Go to the search tab, instead of using the search button, the first option will be google search.

The problem is the dates the searches bring up are completely random. Most of the topics I want to reply to are already 2-3 years old.

Although still not bad to search up forum usernames

LOL, I think you are right. It can't be just a coincidence that the results are often so useless. Smiley

Waiting for the new forum software, I think that ATM our best options are:
- using google search like other users have suggested;
- using the search function on https://bitcointa.lk , an unrelated website that is currently mirroring https://bitcointalk.org .

Yeah this is a known thing in addition to the avatars which are not working either. I'm guessing once we have the new forum that both features shall properly work.

It would be a lot more usable if results could be sorted by date.
