Help Us Spread Bitcoin to Every Corner of the Globe

Hey Bitcoin friends...

I started something I'm calling "The Bitcoin Adoption Alliance".
It is a web portal to help organize our efforts to get
merchants to adopt Bitcoin.

A lot of people have been talking about introducing
merchants to Bitcoin in your own backyard.  There
was even a thread about getting paid to do so.
 
We need more of this.

I do not have all the answers.

Here's what I have so far, please let me know
how we can take this to the next level!

The Bitcoin Adoption Alliance (BAA) is a loosely structured coalition of Bitcoin enthusiasts who are actively involved in advancing the goal of widespread merchant adoption of Bitcoin as an accepted payment method. The BAA can further its goals both through individual actions as well as coordinated efforts.

In the spirit of decentralization, we think of BitcoinAdoption.org as separate from the alliance itself. We prefer everyone be a self-leader. Rather than speaking for the community, this website is simply a portal that provides resources to help achieve our common goals, as well as a channel to facilitate organization.

Here are a few of the possible ways that BitcoinAdoption.org intends to further the goals of the BAA:

    Petitions: We can link to petitions for various corporations to start accepting payments in Bitcoin.
    Incentives: We can link to incentive programs and contests that community members run, as well as help manage incentive programs that others wish to create.
    Literature: We can publish or link to materials used to educate a) the populace about the benefits of using Bitcoin, b) merchants about the benefits of accepting Bitcoin, and c) alliance members about the best practices to recruit merchants and spread knowledge.
    Networking: We can help local communities organize socially.
    Sponsorship: We can provide businesses the opportunity to further the goals of the BAA while gaining visibility.
    Donations: We can accept anonymous and public donations for direct use in furthering the goals of the BAA, with an emphasis on transparency.

Next step is to start linking to petitions (is there an amazon petition? etc), incentives (please post the link to the "get paid to get businesses accept bitcoin" and other threads , etc),
literature (wasnt there a few brochures floating around?) ,... and if you have a Bitcoin business, you can be a sponsor at whatever level you want, etc....

Lets do this great thing!

no comments so far? I'm surprised.   I'll be working on this a bit at a time, today will try to find some existing adoption petitions and link to them.

Thanks for the work on this. I didn't comment after first glance because all the links at the bottom were 'under construction'. I see now you're slowly building it up.

Very cool. Some professional literature would be the biggest help with this. My wife teaches document design but neither of us knows enough to put together bit coin literature for dissemination.

Nice one! We can sit and wait for merchants to accept bitcoin but then it will take forever.

A lot merchants don't know much about bitcoin, beside hearing that it reached $1000 mark, or the mtgox tragedy in the news.
Good idea to tell them how safe it is, and also how easy. If they like it, they will use it

Yes, I agree with this.
If we want that Bitcoin become mainstream this will happen when people will be able to use Bitcoin to buy different services and products, like air tickets, computers, TV...
but this will not happen overnight.
We will need top introduce bitcoin to many merchants, explain to them what is the benefit for accepting it and slowly but gradually we will see some progress.
Of course, just talking is not enough, someone have to go out and do ''hard work''.

Correct, adoption will happen on its own, but
certainly much slower than if people take an
active role.

You realize that as soon as you start working
on it... nothing happens on its own. Everything
happens for a reason.

Anyway, today I have set up the incentive page,
which links back to a thread here (opinions welcome
on how to improve that).  Also I set up a donation
wallet.  Your support goes directly into incentives.

Tomorrow will search for some basic materials (brochures, etc)
to add to the site.
