I doubt a newbie would download the private keys

if the site goes down you lose the coins?

Yes, if you haven't import you private key. But that's very unlikely considering Blockchain is one the top bitcoin biz and also active helping on Bitcoin growth

most of these wallets are really that great unless its a light weight wallet.

eg: multibit - light weight wallet that doesnt download the whole network etc. (faster acceptance)

im im looking for a new online wallet to use for my spending money
anyone recommend any?
extra points for the sites with apps too android/ iphone

I would suggest the blockchain.info wallet, with a strong password not used before and 2FA enabled. Smiley
As others mentioned, the good thing about blockchain.info wallet is that you are the only one having access to your private keys.

coinbase or blockchain

don't go over to a 3rd party

who knows what could happen, these are trustworthy

but don't keep your coins there too long

there was a trustworthy wallet too somethingsomething.io it was called

everyone lost their coins..

don't make their mistake..

Blockchain is trustworthy, because you don't have to trust them.

When making a wallet there, you stay in control of your coins, and you can even download a file which let's you import your private key to an offline wallet in case the website fails.

I doubt a newbie would download the private keys

if the site goes down you lose the coins?

Why wouldn't he?

If someone is not ready to do some simple steps to protect his coins, then the Fiat system might be a better and safer place for him.

I usually use blockchain to convert my bitcoin into my local currency.
I've done with it over a year without any problem although sometimes I'm afraid to hold bitcoin for a long time because I've heard about hacked / stolen bitcoin on the blockchain site

Think the concensus here is Blockchain.info and I'd have to agree. Quick to setup and easy to use, just make sure not to keep too much btc in your wallet.

I recommend greenaddress.it, they have been my go to wallet for most of my funds (Until I got into hardware wallets).  They are a multisignature wallet, which adds a huge layer of security.  Its really easy to use and accessible on the go to.

https://blockchain.info/en/wallet

This is probably the most realiable option.

Agreed, their Android wallet is working well too. I've been using it for my daily transaction and never had a serious problem.

I agree with you two, but the android version of Blockchain Wallet is kinda buggy on mine
It's show that i had -0.0$
which actually i got 1 or more $
I kinda hate the currency converter at this time
i hope the mobile wallet dev is working to debug the bug Undecided

This is probably the most realiable option.

I agree, altough it seems to be not very popular on this forum nowadays... but I think it's still the best online wallet, expecially regarding their very simple transaction options, to mix money and to make customized transactions.
Never had a problem with blockchain.info.

Blockchain is good option. It is true. Very good for small amount, but for bigger amount you should use traditional wallet at your PC.
But I prefer to not use any middle man. It is question of security.
It is like leaving funds on the Exchange. It can crash anytime.
