Here is some in depth proof that your donations are going to people who are striving to make a great cryptocurrency platform.  The video highlights the new GUI in progress as well as ports, and the database work being don among other things.  Well worth the watch:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LlTDS3iCqRY

Thank you. This is well worth watching. One aspect of this presentation that really pleased me is the emphasis on building a strong base at a fundamental level. The database work, in particular separating the storage and logic functions of the blockchain, and designing it to be agnostic to existing FLOSS and propriety database solutions, is the kind of approach that will produce very good returns over the long term and is critically important even though it is not glamorous in the short term. It does provide me with additional confidence that the development team is very much on the right track here.

Concerned that blockchain bloat will lead to centralization? Storing less than 4 GB of data once required the budget of a superpower and a warehouse full of punched cards. https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/8/87/IBM_card_storage.NARA.jpg https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Punched_card

How do I generate a payment id when I donate?

You can just create a random one yourself - it's 64 hex characters:)

I don't understand this.  What exactly do I do with these 64 characters?

You don't need a payment ID to donate, only to deposit to exchanges (and in the future, perhaps, other merchants). Just send the donation to the donation address.

You can add a payment ID to any payment if you are using simple wallet by putting it after the amount. It must be 64 hex characters.

Some exchanges and pools let you specify a payment ID for the payments the send you, which is convenient for sending those payments directly to an exchange, but otherwise not needed.

For the ignorant the hex characters are the numbers 0 through 9 and the letters a through f.  Is that correct?  Are the letters case dependent?

Yes that is correct. I don't know if the letters are case dependent (they certainly aren't for hex in general just not sure about payment ids), but the common practice is to use lower case.

GiveBTCPls you are doing the right thing with the PrimeDice signature then.

I plan on continuing to donate with a portion of my earnings from sig campaigns.

Imagine if 200 Monero holders participated in signature campaigns and donated just 0.1 monthly to the Dev team (pretty easy to earn 0.2+)

That would be 20 btc a month, or about double monthly all the donations they've gotten so far.

Sent 1000, bringing my total to 2500.

Now I have an important question: What happened to the

Quote
(+1 crate of Diamonds for every 1,000 XMR donated)

that used to be in the original post?

I want my second crate of diamonds.

A new level with a new banner will be created for every new crate of diamonds (but can be left not shown if it is empty, ie eg smooth has 3,000+ and the next one has 1999-). Also the dan rating will increase with every total amount starting with 1,2 and 5, so a 2500 donation increases that as well.

Nice, Smooth.

I will take care of this later today when I have time.  Perhaps while I am on a plane assuming a working net connection.

Sent 2.5 btc to the dev fund. What title does that get me?

with current exchange rate that would equal to roughly 700XMR and give you the 5th dan monero superheroes with piles of Rhodium.

Woah.  I Put you down for 2.5 XMR.  Oops.

I will adjust.  I see the 2.5btc transaction to the dev address...

@smooth (and Risto) if you think the little diamond graphic is tacky I will drop it.  Smiley

edit: Actually sometime later I will clean up the OP and make a nice clearer layout for the different rankings.
