Hey guys,

I put this little OS together to help people overcome the hassles of installing all the necessary packages etc and get their miners working. Also as a added bonus install this to a USB flash drive and carry your bitcoin wallet everywhere you go.

This is a very early version and I have many more idea's to come. I just thought I'd out this alpha version so people can test and give me feedback.

Once finished I will be selling pre-installed usb flash drives for around 50BTC if that sounds reasonable ?

This alpha ISO is huge due to the fact that it has a lot of stuff that's not needed. I will be stripping it down over the next week.

for the moment I'm hosting it from my Debian box but if someone could torrent this for me it would be great. Downloads may be painfully slow I'll look into getting it uploaded somewhere tomorrow.

UPDATE: Sorry about the delay guys I decided to update my server last night and debian sid appears to be very broken at the moment to say the least Rebuilding this machine now. Plus I don't want to rush this out before its at least usable

drgr33n, you have three options to make a live bitux distro (as my research shown before a week):

First is to use already stripped in size - pick from http://www.linuxlinks.com/Distributions/Mini_Distributions/ , and just add
Second is to make one from scratch - go to lfs project site
Third is to make a Gentoo - it's almost the same as lfs

It's under a gig with all the build dependencies I'm hoping to get it down to around 600Mb

It's debian based. And yes basically I have created a new OS everything is designed to be as light as it can be on resources and your GPU so maximum power can be got from your hardware when mining.

I don't know hence the alpha version. I only have ATI hardware to test so that was going to be on of my questions to you guys. I'l get it uploaded in a while so you can have a play.

Ok here's where I'm at. ATM the ISO is built from a VMWare image and is not very tidy. I've now got a full list of dependencies and software I need so I'm thinking a few hours building the final product would help the testing and maintenance of this little distro. So I'm going to be rebuilding the iso this afternoon. If you would like anything included or have some ideas please post them and I'll try and get them all included.

$150 for a $6 flash drive loaded with some open source software? No, that doesn't sound reasonable.

Did I say $150 ? lol some people really do need to think before they speak And its not just Open Source software. I've spent lots of hours already optimizing this OS to be as fast it can be while mining plus being very light but having lots of useful software included.

lol yes I do know this error its not my fault every morning when I wake up I check the exchange rate and its flew up again Once this is at a stable state I will make sure its about the equivelent of £35. AND the ISO will be available for free if you want to buy your own flash device and make your own. What I will say is if you do decide to do this I would hope you could appreciate that most of my efforts will be going towards the paying customers. So no support for roll your own usb stick. But if you are comfortable using linuk I suspect you will be fine

lol ok enough with the digs I'm mostly there now this stuff isnt easy !! I have got several ISO's but none that works 100% And I don't want to release a rushed version that doesn't work.

I was really excited till I read the price. I've been thinking about something similar, but my target audience would not be miners/the bitcoin community, instead it would be luddites of the highest caliber. I've met a lot of people on my roadtrip who simply do not understand the concept of the internet, let alone 'digital cash.'

If we made a simple CD that they can pop in their computer and boot/run, it could have everything they need to start using bitcoin - just like what you're doing. It would need really solid documentation and a simple UI. Also, no one would be willing to pay more than like, a buck, for it.

I'm not really looking for any money for the distro just some return for the flash media that will be shipped with the distro preinstalled. £30 sounds fair I think for a 8Gb usb flash drive and my time to install the software and make any customizations etc.

Hi guys!

I've been happily hacking away at LinuxCoin, and I've got persistence running (it wasn't quite as bad as I thought -- run the standard unetbootin against the ISO, and then rename the persistence file.

I've put two .sh files on my desktop -- one to start pool mining, and the other for when DDoS gets nasty, and i want to shift back to solo.

I saw something, but for the life of me I can't remember where, that you could add items into a start script on the X system.

Right now, the ATI EULA autolaunches on each boot (not ideal, but OK).

I'd like to make the shell script for launching my pool connection, and probably teamviewer auto-launch.

Any suggestions on next steps?
