Just bought my first smartphone today, a cheap android. I know nothing about bitcoin and phones, so can anyone recommend a deterministic android wallet? I find it much easier and safer over messing with backups.

There are several different types of Bitcoin clients. The most secure are full nodes like Bitcoin Core, which will follow the rules of the network no matter what miners do. Even if every miner decided to create 1000 bitcoins per block, full nodes would stick to the rules and reject those blocks.

I have searched around for one but i dont think there is one (correct me if am wrong). Why dont you try mycelium, i have been using it for the last month or so and i have had no issues with it so far.

Electrum for Android.  But installation is a bit of a pain.

Mycelium is probably about 95% done with their HD wallet implementation, and will be releasing it soon.
