Originally, I cashed out of CEX.io ( still wondering if it's worth going back to it ) and bought NXT in hopes of making a small profit off of Forging.

BIG MISTAKE

Now with what I have left over, I was wondering what a good PoS coin/IPO/Whatever I should invest it in.
Still a newbie to the markets and with so many coin clones floating around, it's hard to find something worthy.

50% NXT,
50% PPC

both have an awesome development community, however their goals are quite distinct.
PPC is mainly designed to be a store of value (which encourages hording) which
NXT aimes for lots of features and a hight transactional volume.

You don't get rich by minting/forging you do it save your investment by securing the network.

Both are on discount now I believe.

NXT is currently the largest PoS coin in terms of market cap, next highest would be Peercoin.  It's difficult to say, however, if any altcoins, PoS or otherwise, will be a good investment in the near future or not.  It's almost impossible to tell which ones are going to perform well and which ones are going to crash and burn.  This thread will probably get filled with plenty of posts effectively saying "this coin I hold/invested in/promote is definitely the best one", but clearly there's an agenda there, so the only safe advice is to do your own research on the potential advantages and pitfalls.  Only invest what you can afford to lose.  Take everything you're told with a pinch of salt, because there's no real right or wrong answer to your question.  At the end of the day, we're all just guessing.

I was thinking that too!

Hmm, I'll consider that combination.

Why do you want to invest in a PoS coin?

What makes you think that PoS is a better investment than PoW?

Why do you think that any altcoin will outperform bitcoin?

If you don't have convincing answers to these questions, I suggest you better stay with bitcoin. The whole altcoin market is in decline because of the huge number of new altcoins coming out every day. I'm not denying that some of these coins are innovative, but most of them simply can't establish a true community that's big enough.
Keep in mind that bitcoin can also evolve and might integrate features originally introduced by altcoins.

Financing miners is an economic burden (hidden by inflating the coin supply).

Well, I don't have the equipment for PoW mining ( as much as I would love to ) and I do have a sliver of hope that if there will ever be some way of regulating the massive flux of copycat altcoins, one of the more innovative coins will managed to top Bitcoin. But that's probably far into the future. Thanks for the advice though  Smiley

I'd Check out Bitsharesx, their DPOS system is very interesting. Holding some NXT as a hedge is probably a good choice.

I was originally going to dump my money back into CEX until I saw how pricy it is. Thanks for referring me to BitsharesX!
How exactly does DPOS work?

Everyone will tell to you invest in the coin they baghold.

I'd tell you, start a business and start accepting bitcoins.

2nd option.

Be active here on BCTalk, stick to this subforum: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=159.0 ( Enable e-mail notification, so you receive e-mail when a topic is made. That's what I do and make real money. )

Keep BTC on your https://nicehash.com account. ( Make sure to have a strong password. )

When you see a launch, rent some hashing power. Mine the coin. Wait for exchanges to add it, dump your coins.  ( Don't regret if you miss big pumps after you've sold, until you have a good sum of BTC )

Read as much as you can. This forum can change your life, if you know what you want to do with your life. Set targets.

Sounds interesting. If I ever get any returns from the BitsharesX purchase I made, I will use your advice.

This discussion has taken place elsewhere already. Just want to say that if the majority of stakeholders mints/forges instead of keeping their coins in an exchange, someone who doesn't own many coins cannot do damage.
BTW peercoin is working on cold storage minting.

Originally, I cashed out of CEX.io
still wondering if it's worth going back to it

CEX.io is a scam in a way that it is absolutely impossible to make a gain unless you daily trade.
If you trade, that mean you take money from people that are already taking a loss.
It is clearly a fool game.

and bought NXT in hopes of making a small profit off of Forging.
BIG MISTAKE

So you are the kind of people that invest without knowing what they are doing ?
You could just ask about the ROI of forging before investing.

Now with what I have left over, I was wondering what a good PoS coin/IPO/Whatever I should invest it in.
Still a newbie to the markets and with so many coin clones floating around, it's hard to find something worthy.

Again, you're going to invest in something you don't understand ?
Doing the same mistake over and over ?

I think Ethereum, Maidsafe and Storj are for you if you want to lose the few money left.

If you want to invest a coin, you need to check this :
1. Does that coin price stable / went up ?
2. How big is the coin community
3. Is that coin have great / unique innovation
4. Do you think people would dump that coin

and i think NXT is good coin to invest

Indeed.
I have 80% in Nxt. Why ?
Because the price is relatively stable compared to all other crypto (even Bitcoin) and the swigs are somehow predictable so (with a bit of experience) you know when to buy and when to sell.
I am often buying/selling (but mostly buying) since the very start and it is one of the only investment I made that went well in the long term.

Just remember something : Buy low & Sell high. That mean, buy when everyone is spreading FUD and sell when everyone is hyping.
If it is hard for you to sell, know that everything that goes up must go down.

I'd ignore the price completely. Try to judge the technical details and the community. Also I think putting a lot into coins with small "marketcap" is quite foolish. Think about "owning" a certain percentage of the coin supply and not about absolute amounts in "BTC" or "USD". As an illustration when I said 50% NXT 50% PPC, I suggested overweighting PCC. But then again I should not have suggested anything, try not to invest in anything  you don't understand on some level, this is gambling.
