Mr Putin has blamed the tragedy of MH17 on Ukraine, yet he is the author of its destruction. A high-court’s worth of circumstantial evidence points to the conclusion that pro-Russian separatists fired a surface-to-air missile out of their territory at what they probably thought was a Ukrainian military aircraft. Separatist leaders boasted about it on social media and lamented their error in messages intercepted by Ukrainian intelligence and authenticated by America (see article). Russia’s president is implicated in their crime twice over. First, it looks as if the missile was supplied by Russia, its crew was trained by Russia, and after the strike the launcher was spirited back to Russia. Second, Mr Putin is implicated in a broader sense because this is his war. The linchpins of the self-styled Donetsk People’s Republic are not Ukrainian separatists but Russian citizens who are, or were, members of the intelligence services. Their former colleague, Mr Putin, has paid for the war and armed them with tanks, personnel carriers, artillery—and batteries of surface-to-air missiles. The separatists pulled the trigger, but Mr Putin pulled the strings............ http://www.economist.com/news/leaders/21608645-vladimir-putins-epic-deceits-have-grave-consequences-his-people-and-outside-world-web

The really messed up part is that the Ukraine let the separatists go to Russia. There is nothing the could do to stop Russia. So what are the separatists worried about now, they won! Why are they shoot birds out of the sky?
It's just awful and meaningless and just pushes world-wide point of views on conflict and terrorism one step closer to more universal violence.

And what west are doing to prevent it from happening again? Putin reign supreme, he can do whatever he wants, I am still waiting for some embargo for Russian, without much hope. It is like before second world war when Hitler did whatever he want with no problems.

At the same time Russian Defense Ministry has sent the investigators their material, satellite photos, etc, which shows that Ukranian missile battery and fighter plane were there at the time when the plane was shot down. The problem is that from the start this story became very political. No matter what the investigation will show the US will blame Russia anyway.

The Economist is not a propaganda tool from US?
The economist is actually a very conservative magazine, and does not generally get along with the liberal Obama administration.

Wait are you suggesting the US stay out of something that doesn't involve them?? Impossible unless of course it involves hundreds of innocent Palestinian deaths.

As for supplying the pro-russian separatists with weapons.. the US/EU is doing the same with the pro-eu separatists
