I am recently reading about miner's problems with the heat in their houses caused by their miners.

As we know - it is summer and it is hot (well .. not everywhere).

I already read a thread when someone have problems with his wife as he cannot stand the heat (and electricity bills Smiley )..
And there was few other threads about it also...

So what is the best method to keep your room cool (enough) while mining during the Summer?

I am not a miner and I haven't got that problem but I want to find one good method which will work for all of the miners ... is it possible?

Thing is - most of us will say "Why not A/C??" - A/C is great and it is best option for your room to keep it cool. But not all of us have possibility to run a good A/C as it will blow the fuse out ... while miners are running ...

So is there any other good / tested method or any ideas on how to keep the room cool with no A/C and no devices which will do the same with the fuses like A/C will do in this case.

Maybe those fans can help? Most of them has two configurations : "default" and "summer". "Summer" configuration is rotating the blades in other way which will make the airflow much better and the air should be cooler ....

also something like this and keep windows CLOSED:

Any good ideas?

I am thinking that there is for sure possibility to create a box with radiators around and water cooling system around and keep your miner inside ... box with vent etc.

Or maybe big aquarium for your miners? Smiley

Huge extractor fans, pulling the heat out of the room. But you will spend a lot for that type of customization to your house.

AC is your best bet, but they will double your electric bill, which is the opposite of what you aiming to do.  Huh

Here's some help for non-pro datacenter cooling. You can create fan hoods for your miners and vent hot air out the room for little money. Back in the early days before I moved my miners into a datacenter, I used this method to provide some effective cooling.

1) Using shelving racks from lowes or home depot to elevate your mining equipment about 1/2 inch above whatever they are siting on. Having some airflow beneath your miner will allow colder air to rise up through and around the miners.

2) Use a shop fan to circulate air, point the fans across the miners or with the airflow from any fans the miners may have.  Stay away from Lasko fans, they catch fire, google Lasko and fire for more info. Instead, try Utilitech shop fans or "Q Standard".

3) You can get insulated 4" ducting for cheap by Dundas Jafine which is class 1 fire rated, you get 25' for $40. You can get 4" Y fitting splitters for about $16ea, and a inline fan duct for $20ea to help exhaust hot air out. You can get rectangle to 4" round transitions (vents) for $20 ea.

4) You can create hood by getting a 27 gallon storage/tote for $15 at lowes, cut the side out and sit the storage box on its side and don't use the lid. Then cut out a rectangle hole in the bottom, and place the rectangle transition in the hole and connect the 4" ducting. Place the miners on the shelf, cover the miners with the hood you created and then place the shop in back of the miners with the airflow blowing into the hood. Keep in mind your miners are not being sealed up in the hood, the hood is just used to collect the hot air and exhaust it out the insulated venting.

I might have some pics somewhere to help.

That's very interesting solution! If you can upload pics that would be great! It is always better to read + see before anyone will try to it on his own Smiley

Thanks for your response.

Ps. Is your method making a lot of noise or is it quite reasonable sound? Smiley It might be important to choose some quiet fans too Smiley

Cheers!

Where do you plan on doing this? {Home or warehouse}?

cloverme, you have the solution spot on for a warehouse environment. Very innovative ideas indeed. But I too would be a bit hesitant to use this in a home environment, due to noise.

If you married with kids, this might be a additional headache.  Wink

Sorry it took a while to find a pic of it. So, this is a good setup for a shop warehouse, which is where I used it.  It was as loud as your average box/floor fan, so if you have a room that you can close off, this solution would work well.  Then I grew my farm and moved it into a datacenter, but back in summer 2013, this provided some cost effective cooling. The warehouse would get to 106°F without the hood cooler, with the hood cooler the temp went down to 95°F. Cheaper than an AC and the fan only drew 0.5A of power.
