Yes I have tried the config from OP and the wallet still does not sync.

Wallet in the bottom left hand corner says No block source available.

Any pointers as I would like to be able to get my coins in it now please

With a difficulty where it is, you would have to be and idiot to at least not throw a couple bucks worth of hash at it

do this. It worked for me.

You should import into your wallet:
Open Wallet -> Help -> Debug window -> Console
Type: importprivkey <privatekey>
Then you will have the coins in your wallet.

you should get a few more than 8

Its just a little different, people will have less of it, it will cost more when it hits an exchange.
