Probably Satoshi cashing out some Bitcoins ?

I came across this thread today on reddit:


The only people I know for sure mining a significant number of bitcoins blocks in the first three weeks were Satoshi and Hal Finney. Is it common knowledge by now that we know who the first early miners were?
I ask because someone who mined blocks between January 29 and February 7, 2009 has been cashing them out over the past nine months. I'm curious how large the list of likely suspects is.

Mined January 30, 2009 then February 4, 2009, then February 6, 2009, then February 7, 2009.
For those who do not know, the very first bitcoin block ever was mined on January 3, 2009

The second one wasn't mined until 6 days later on January 9, 2009:

So, any blocks from January 30th are absurdly early in this history of the blockchain and only a handful of people could be responsible for this!
These begin with block #2400!!
All spent/transferred within minutes on February 6, 2014!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And these aren't the only very, very, very, early bitcoin blocks which have been redeemed. There have been a series of them, which is included in the data when the article gets published.


if this is Satoshi this means that the million Bitcoin is not lost and the guy still have control of the wallet, the next thing we need to know is if he will be selling some of that million and how, when and to where otherwise to whom (we might know who is satoshi at the end).

Interesting post but I think its an overstatement to claim for sure that those are Satoshi's coins. Check out this comment:

Seems more likley to me those are not Satoshi's coins. However it's pretty interesting that coins from such long time ago are still moving (Even though they moved in febraury and not really recently).

hmmm looks like the real Satoshi took the opportunity and a small time window at the beginning of this year to boot up his elaborate anonymizing VPN infrastructure again and take care of some BTCusiness with this and the reply to the Dorian story, before "moving on to" his "other things" again.

price is not dropping like a stone in a place without atmosphere, so its more probably just an uncofirmed possibility at most, for now

Could this be the reason for the recent drop in price? I don't know what to say to this as I'm no expert in these things but it does seem that someone from the early days is cashing out some money I wish I was involved in the early days :-/

This doesn't necessarily mean that he is selling his bitcoin but rather that he is moving his bitcoin from one adders to another (assuming that he did in fact mine the coins in question and assuming that he is the only one that controls the private keys to the coins in question)

This happened over 5 months ago so I doubt it had anything to do with the price drop.

It is very interesting to see coins that were mined such a long time ago moving around all of a sudden.

there should be a simple service to track all the bitcoin mined on 2009 and maybe with sms alarms for a fee and special filters

Yea but I think that BTC is just so largely spread and widely known and used that it will never go back to 0$. Thats just my opinion though.

Is it technically feasible to attempt finding a wallet's private key? I thought it was practically impossible to do it with today's computers. I have already lost a few keys and know I have coins on blockchains that I can no longer spend.

One of the earliest people to receive coins where AHA (the Austin Hackers Association)  Dustin D. Trammell received 50 coins on 2009-01-16 at 19:18:35
Initially I though H. D. Moore is Satoshi which is not the case
