http://www.coindesk.com/kanye-west-sues-coinye-altcoin-oblivion/ Rapper Kanye West has managed to kill an altcoin named in his honour, six months after it was launched by a team of developers.
Called Coinye West, the altcoin was subsequently renamed Coinye in an attempt to continue its business activities even in the face of legal pressure.
The developers envisioned Coinye as a fun and simple altcoin for the hip-hop community, and even tweeted news about its development to the rapper in the hopes he would embrace the concept.

Killed? I thought that it was already dead?
To be fair, that project was always going to get into legal troubles when it associated itself with Kanye.

First, it was already dead from the beginning. Second, the rapper probably did not understand the concept and did not want anything so weird to be associated with his name. :-)

Imagine that - a coin representing a 1%er who thinks he's a 99%er failing.

The altcoin was always stupid and it's only advantage was that it's name was catchy and was similar to a famous person.

I agree that the coin never had any potential but I just find it silly that kayne went that far. especially with his big ass lawyers which he paid millions for that which only took a week in trial.

This does not really shock me to be honest because of the name they used, anything that involved itself with the name Kanye West was always going to end up in a legal issue in the end even if it did take time. I personally though feel he really did take it a little too far when he did sue them.

It didn't involve the name Kanye West. It was called Coinye West. It was a parody which is completely protected legally. The devs just obviously didn't have the balls to fight it which is a shame.

Just another junk coin, nobody really loses - except the hiphop community and kayne himself. but, junk music too

I think the guy is too full of himself to notice it, once his market department finds out they'll make a decision. Probably they would do the same as Kayne, but you never know.

It was probably a money issue vs a balls issue. Big law firm with lots of bucks vs a joke coin with none. :-)

I love how Coindesk is always late.
I think this happened before July. Sort of old news. Anyway, they didn't even use his face for the logo. They used the Gay Fish.
