questions from someone new to this coin to others in this discussion thread who've been more closely following it:
could anyone summarise what's special about it?

were basic aspects ready at launch - wallet, blockexplorer, website, whitepaper and/or features, etc. - or is the [ANN] promise-heavy?
have the devs delivered on their promises?
Any hidden problems -
premines?
instamines?
well distributed? is there a rich list?
buggy code?
are these are hard core programmers, not "copy-paste" devs or middlemen? When bugs/fork challenge pop up, are they fixed quickly?
dev squabbles?
dev complacency?
missed deadlines?
any "proof of developer"? Is the entirte dev team anonymous -- and even if so, does it at least have a solid reputation here on bitcointalk?
How does the coin production/distribution setup provide insulation from the risk of massive miner/whale dumps? Is there an estimate out there of the max # of daily BTC trading volume that might be needed to absorb mined coins?
Anything to worry about?

When is the next significant development update (code, screenshots and/or whitepaper/proof-of-concept or something else?) expected to come out?

First and foremost we do not have huge cpu mining farms, but we will be mining Doomcoin along with everyone else.
Currently there is no GPU miner and Doomcoin will be CPU only using the wallet until
someone from the community is able to create a standalone cpu/gpu one for public use.

Doomcoin was created to be used as a currency and our goal is to be adopted into the gaming industry;
using our contacts we have already started talks with several development teams in the Indie gaming circle. Much of
the resistance we are facing is due to not having launched so Doomcoin needs to establish it's monetary value to make
it's integration easier.

It will be up soon to help generate revenue for the Doom Fund. We are using site advertising to share revenue,

We are writing a proposal that they accept Doomcoin as payment for drinks and food. News of the outcome of this
will be public as soon as we have concrete affirmation.

Android Wallet is in the works, hopefully by week 2 post launch [tor integration
is proving difficult].

Our team is currently working with a professor of economics to fortify and strengthen the
financial impact that Doom Fund will have for this currency. Our goal is to eventually fully automate
the fund to stop massive price spikes and halt price sell down tactics used by large traders.

The Doomcoin Premine will not be dumped like so many developers have done in the past.
This Premines sole purpose is to keep Doom from manipulation that rapidly causes huge price spikes,
or giant sell offs. Our development team will pay for bounties and costs from this fund after it becomes sustainable
This system will take a week or 2 after exchange listing in order to have the power to have a substantial effect,
it will be put into play when Doomcoin hits an exchange.  Using Copula Functions our formula can predict some coin
market changes, though digital currency markets are quite impossible to fully calculate vectors.

Once the Doom Fund has proven price stabilization we will use some of the funds to pay
marketing for their hard work on aggressive gaming vendor adoption. We can post the BTC and DOOM addresses
for transparency but they will change constantly once the market goes live and our trading bot's do their job.

Before anyone feels the need to say it, I know we cannot completely control the coin's fluctuations once it
hits exchanges. We do need to try and soften the spikes though or no game company/vendors will take it seriously as a possible

It's not to early because there are no multi pools that run luffa-512. We already had our 3rd halving. I think it's perfect.
