The Obama Administration is actually telling police agencies to refuse FOIA requests on security grounds or censoring such documents to the point of worthlessness. Last week, the US Marshals interfered in a case in Florida to prevent the ACLU from meeting with local police officials to discuss the use of stingray technology. According to the ACLU, the Marshal’s deputized the local police force, declared all materials related to stingray use to be government property, and took the records off-site.

There's something similar to this being used in Oakland county Michigan which has caused a bit of a stir and is being highlighted in state rep Tom McMillin's race for Congress in the primary where his opponent was hand-picked by outgoing security state hawk Rep. Mike Rogers. Rogers' wife's company also had the security contract during the Benghazi incident over there.

It really isn't the fact that the technology exists that bothers me it is the fact that the government is freely using the technology against its citizens.

It creeps me out that the government feels it has the right to intrude into a persons communications to such an extent.
It's like saying we will stalk you legally and no you cannot issue a restraining order against us.
All your communications will be between you and us the government and perhaps all factions so if you ever mess with us we will arrest you with prejudice

A stingray is a false cell phone tower that can force phones in a geographical area to connect to it. Once these devices connect, the stingray can be used to either hone in on the target’s location or, with some models, actually eavesdrop on conversations, text messages, and web browser activity.

To put it simply a gross overstepping of their boundaries.
