The BtcFn (Bitcoin Freenet) project is to transport BitCoin (blockchain, TXes and seeds) over Freenet, (and other like services).

In our previous thread: http://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2312.0 we have started the specification defining the implementation of BtcFn.

For the latest version of the specification please view out freesite: USK@oG7cGoUEBuHyulWpcmqV0yc-I569Re2A7RRs8zRljEs,IWIcXczmLdP9FEjTvoxJgGnXnK5~PxOppN-wYSADPWQ,AQACAAE/bitcoin-over-freenet/1/

For more information please visit: #btcfn on freenode irc

If you wish to donate to this project please send funds to: 1Ar74jTvxkxdVDe7A5ZUdNB62hWmfwdCnM (managed by da2ce7)

Gokhan: 50 BTC
broker (freetalk): 100 BTC
Tril (freetalk): 2 BTC (in escrow)
lyspooner: 200

anon: 202BTC (in escrow)

Total:  402 (escrow) + 400 (pledged) = 804 BTC
We have started development.  (Any more donations are most welcome, it enables us to do a more comprehensive job)

Yeap, I also did the original specs for the BtcFn protocol (bounty was payed by da2ce7).
My specification of BtcFn is on Freenet:
USK@oG7cGoUEBuHyulWpcmqV0yc-I569Re2A7RRs8zRljEs,IWIcXczmLdP9FEjTvoxJgGnXnK5~PxOppN-wYSADPWQ,AQACAAE/bitcoin-over-freenet/1/

Bitcoin-over-Frenet ( BtcFn ) GOALS:
- security against hackers (think DDoS)
- anonymity against competitive businesses (don't want others to know Im buying X stock or investing into Y project)
- privacy for personal use (don't want everyone to know I'm buying XL dildos Tongue , or rather - that I'm buying midgets video online)
- privacy for political use (sponsor pro-human-rights organization from China, e.g. it's Freesite; or EFF. Etc)
- technical awesomeness - to do things right and fix bitcoin's inherited lack of anonimity

(Ofcourse all tools can be missused, even kitchen knife can be used to kill the childreeen blaaarghg, but it's no reason to go crazy and outlaw everything like idiots in USA ;-). Also, actual organized crime ALREADY has BETTER ways to do everything, laundry money, evade tax, extortions, kidnapping, politicians bribing - just turn on TV / or read any online newspaper Wink
So I believe it is a tool that will benefit the weak ones (normal users), therefore it is for the better! Smiley

If you do not have Freenet yet, then this is uncensurable awesome distributed cryptonetwork, where content is stored between clients, so that it can not be censored even if content author was killed Wink and also the people storing parts of other people content can NOT ACCESS IT normally (unless they find proper key = url+password) so the people are usually NOT LEGALLY RESPONSIBLE as per Safe Harbor.
Installation takes 5 minutes, it is opensource and in java. http://freenetproject.org/ download it Wink
Yes, it can be slow a bit and eat some resources, but just tune the options or wait for improved version please. This is the "price" for probably most anonymous and uncensorable, unblockable network! Smiley

When you started freenet then you see proxy panel on 127.0.0.1:8888 and just paste there on bottom above USK@.... key (link) . Ask if any questions at all.

i can't comment on any of the details of the proposed protocol due to insufficient familiarity with freenet... but fwiw i think it's a good idea to have this available.

we may all be happy it is there, if it comes to pass that some $government or some $isp decides to block (or monitor) bitcoin traffic.

<lyspooner> on IRC offers 200 BTC (donates now, but return it IF more people donate)
plus 200 BTC to be just borrowed (anyway need to be given back durin max 1 year, faster it getting enough donations)

I guess we can consider it +200 at least, so 600 BTC is founded,  and basically it makes sense to start development (will take it lightly in first 2 weeks - still got other jobs, and then fully).

Would you handle/escrow it all?

I will draft details of what will work in the "800 btc" version

We have hired Xelister and his team to do the initial development for 800 BTC...

If we get any more BTC, we can hire his team for a longer time.

Hi folks. I've been writing code as volunteer for Freenet for ~3 years: I'm the main developer of the Freetalk anonymous forum system, ~60 000 lines of code. To be fair I should mention that there is quite some code from other contributors (newsreader interface, old core code which I have rewritten) in it but I did review all code in Freetalk  Grin

Anyway, I highly appreciate efforts to run Bitcoin on top of Freenet for giving it an anonymous backend.
I do not have the time for contributing code to it myself since I shall spend all my volunteer-efforts on improving Freetalk, but I can offer the following services:

(1) Reviewing the on-Freenet storage architecture which xelister is planning once he has written a full specification for it
(2) Reviewing actual code which is produced by him for proper design, in terms of best programming practices and proper usage of Freenet API.

Depending on the size of the resulting specification of (1) I might do that for free. I'm not the optimal person for it because even though I'm a computer science student my math evaluations are usually not full mathematical proofs but rather things like "Feels like O(N*log(n))".
(2) will probably lots of work so I'd require some donations for it  Wink
But I feel qualified for (2) as I'm rather anal about code cleanness and I'm a person who enjoys programming anyway.

I'd like to get my identity validated by the mods if thats possible - it didn't seem like the forum require me to validate the email address, which would be useful because I have an @freenetproject one.

Everyone following please comment on the possible Bitcoin Transport Layer API, that the BtcFn project plans to make use of.

A bit OT but I would like to ask something: I too find the freenet idee awesome, but last time I checked it was all but usable or working nicely.

The project site does not do a good job on communicating the state of the project, is it working "correctly" now?
Is it usable for everyday use?
How big is the network?

The project is dead. However there is still an outstanding bounty I hold of 202 btc.

The remainder should be checked with the pleaders, (including me), before being claimed.
