Overclocking will increase your temperature, It can over heat, you would need time to tune it, it should be different for every single machine. Your warranty might be void. Basically, it might shorten the machine's lifespan.

Short answer: no. Mining on a laptop is pointless for pretty much any coin. It sounds like you don't know much about mining so I'd suggest spending a bit of time reading up on it. If you really want to mine try mine a new alt coin that you can trade for bitcoins, but I still wouldnt even attempt to do it on a laptop.

I suggest you attempt to read the OP, since you aren't even trying. Seriously.

Yes, you can leave it on 24/7, but it's not worth it, since Alienware is awesome, and leaving it on can break it.

Ha, yeah it's crazy. It's like a bot chiming in on all those kind of questions. People say they got a new miner and someone just comes and says that mining on a notebook isn't worth it! Haha, read the damn post, man Cheesy

I did read it but it's poorly worded and ambiguous, so don't deny you can't see why I got confused.

It's OK. I think we all appreciate your help and for keeping the rest of us honest and our laptops safe.

With what you probley paid for the alienware laptop don't use it for 24x7 mining.  Use cheap desktop/raspberry pi.

With just running cgminer it sounds like it's not a lot on stress but still no reason to do it on decent laptop.

I agree.  Use a desktop or a pi for running those.  No sense in using a laptop to use as a miner in any regard.

Spend $50 and find some older laptop or desktop on craiglist - it doesn't need to be powerful.  Leave that on as a 24/7 head to the miners.  You could use a Pi but that limits future miner expansion while the old PC would leave you open for more configs.

Buying a raspberry pi would probably add a burden on your attempt to ROI. It may have compatibility issues with some device, even though less likely. You may face some difficulty using a Linux OS and can have a harder time to troubleshoot your devices.
