The San Francisco-based startup, whose technology lets businesses accept online payments, helped introduce a new Bitcoin-like currency on Thursday called “stellar,” as well as a payments network that lets users send any kind of traditional and digital currency including U.S. dollars, pesos, euros and Bitcoins. People will be able to send one kind of currency across the globe and have it automatically converted into another — a sort of all-inclusive online money exchange.

WTF? This is a stupid article.

They never said it was a bitcoin challenger... it uses bitcoin.

A challenger? I don't think so. Looks just like another alt coin and I read that it's ridiculously preminded and a lot of it is going to be given away. Really, whats the point?

It's challenging it's predecessor "Ripple" not Bitcoin. 

And yes, they giving some away, when you link it on Facebook. {5000 per facebook account it seems} I do not know about the pre mine though.

Well I think it's got to be heavily premined because where else will they be getting all these coins to give away? And most alts are scam coins in some way or another so id just leave all of them alone.
