No winners again... This prize is getting quite large!
Is there a mathematician in the house to calculate the odds we actually hit the result in each round? I don't think they are high, we actually may see this prize go much higher than it is now.
Well, I'm no mathematician and it's almost 7am here. But I'm bored, so I'll take a crack at it.
Predicting both scores correctly are independent events. For the sake of math, we'll say the average score is ~80, which it actually was this past season. So I guess you could say you have a 1/80 chance two times to pick the scores. Correctly guessing the number equates to .0125 or 1.25%. The chance of guessing both numbers correctly at those odds are .00015625.
Realistically though, we can say that the teams won't score just 1 point, or anything similar. So narrowing it down to a 30pt range, i.e 50-80. 1/30 = 3.33%, so the odds of predicting both would be around .011%
Taking it even further and narrowing it down to a 12 point range. 1/12 = 8.3%, both scores now becomes an obtainable .069%
This is of course not taking into account that there are combinations which result in a tie that should be removed from possible outcomes. I'm too tired/stoned to go any further. And I'm not even sure if I'm right
