What will crypto-currencies of the future be like? What will we be able to achieve using these crypto-currencies?

A true anon coin would most likely mean the end of many or most central governments.  Their funding would collapse, so that's a start.  With the collapse of central governments, you would no longer have people being put in forced groupings.  Multiculturalism, political correctness, cultural Marxism, all that would die because it doesn't exist without coercion.

Humans group together in the following order:  individual > family > tribe > village > city state composed of the same majority ethnic group.  Then a nation built upon those with treaties.  Civilization would resemble more of what it looked like in the past without the top down tyrannical central government.

Since places like China and Japan are already mostly homogeneous, there wouldn't be much difference there, but places like the US would see huge changes.

The end of democratically elected central governments...
That means 100% 24/7/365 coercion at the point of a gun you cannot even imagine...

This is going to sound really wacky, but we crypto junkies are building the infrastructure to get the world through a new Dark Ages.

In the real Dark Ages, after the final fall of the Western Roman Empire, commerce collapsed. A lot of trade was done locally through barter. As a result, long-distance arbitrage was really complicated and frustrating.

And the reason why commerce was all-but confined to local trade was because trust in strangers collapsed too. The kind of trust we take for granted these days, only a bloody fool would have assumed.

Unfortunately, it was also an age where low-trust clusters relaxed into the same old not-so-humane attitude towards "outlanders" (ie, strangers from another locale.) The locals saw them as gulls ripe for the plucking. That's one of the reasons behind the stereotype about "lying, thieving peasants." The other, oddly enough Wink , was tax resistance...

Back in the real Dark Ages, the only answer to a long-distance "transmission belt" was the Catholic Church. But if a new Dark Ages should befall the world?

Well...what's the Holy Grail of theoretical cryptocurrency? Zero-trust solutions!

In other words, a payment and transfer infrastructure that works to facilitate commerce - including long-distance commerce - in an environment where the guy on the other end of the transaction is one of those "lying, thieving peasants." A fully developed crypto infrastructure - I know we're not there yet, but we're getting there - would mean that you could transact with a "lying, thieving peasant" and have an end result that's essentially the same as if you traded with your cousin who lives a 100m walk from your place.

Okay, okay, but you know what I mean...

Granted that a New Dark Ages would imperil the Internet itself: that collapse would render all cryptos nugatory [as well as a helluva lot else that we depend upon now.] But we humans are a resourceful and resilient bunch, so it's not that Pollyannaish to assume that some kind of cobbled-together good-enough Internet would be around.

Now, I know I'm thinking very long term here. But crypto has a more immediate use for more immediate dark scenarios. Back in tha day in Italy, there was an entire factory that the Italian government didn't know existed. [Officially, that is.] Yep, it was "hidden" by a lot of bribe money thrown here and there, and yep - tax dodging was a large part of the "benefit" from the bribes. But, before you guffaw, consider what other reason an entrepreneur would run a "hidden" place of business.

Okay, okay, ye olde drug dealer...but what about a world where (say) a certain kind of light bulb is as illegal as cocaine? Where a tanning salon is seen by the eyes of the law as something like a crack house?

When you're done thinking about it, and you want some off-time, read The Other Path by Hernando de Soto.

Yeah, I know "It's Can't Happen Here." But on the off chance it does...

We are not evolved enough to live in a world without governments. Groups of humans would band together and take what they believe they deserve, need, whatever. Killing everyone in their wake. They would simply justify their actions. Like we do now.

Give us another 1000 years or so. Maybe more, maybe never. I don't believe that a self centered being can ever co-exist peacefully with others of the same mindset.

It would look like a world with less centralized power.  Not perfect my any means but far better then what we have to work with at the moment.  I imagaine more progress and innovation that better the lives of many and not a small percentage of the population.  I can only imagine what technical advances would be invented in such a world.

That right there, is why we will/should Never have a world dominated by crypto-currencies. I think fiat/credit/cryptocurrencies can/will exist together in unity. Also, China's government doesn't care about it's people at all(communist), since 90% of All people in China make less than 1 U.S dollar per day, and  with it's military having killed their own people, and countless other atrocities.

Who says government wouldn't exist in "Crypto world" ?

Crypto is the biggest friend of Government -

it's just most government

1. don't fully understand that yet and

2. are completely corrupted by Banking institutions.

awesome to hear all the "hold my hand potato" comments ha ha.

Government would certainly still exist with Crypto and will (don't worry little kiddies. )

hilarious to see this forum go from  "confused fake crypto anarchist" to " hold my hand daddy i dropped my potato".

Why would government need to understand crypto? what good does it bring to people?

And what do banks have to do with cryptos? There is already tons of money transfering companies in the world and banks are not closing them down.

these question indicate to me that you have the IQ of a potato.

you have to recognize this first - then we can discuss this matter and both learn.

Will be like the global's unified government as described by so many paranoid conspiracionists and  by some serious writers. Only way to that happens is if the theory about the bitcoin has been created by the secret government is true, or if the secret government finds bitcoin usefull and use it as its currency.
