Please, understand that I don't support in any way child pornography. I'm just puzzled by the news.

http://www.khou.com/story/news/crime/2014/07/30/houston-man-charged-with-child-porn-possession-after-google-cyber-tip/13378459/

You can send pictures of your children at the beach with Google Gmail account, but if you happen to send indecent pictures of children, you will be tipped off to the police.

If you send mail about bitcoin, you may also get noticed? Privacy of correspondence used to be a right. Long time ago.

This guy is some kind of open minded intellectual or what. yeah I use gmail only for work and official messages. Not that I have something to hide in this period, but who knows what will be banned in future, maybe everyone with politically incorrect opinions will end up on blacklist of potential terrosts or some shit, not very democratic.  Cry

I guess that Google have some kind of message filter and when they catch suspicious words like child pornography, they act accordingly to the low and regulations.
I think that benefit of this is greater than possible damage because child pornography is real issue in today's society and must be stopped.

Assume everything you do on the Internet is public.

With that said, I worry that false pedophilia accusations will become rampant; if the only thing it takes to go to jail is to have someone take some CP off Tor and plant it in your email account (I hope you all have secure passwords), then we're going to have a huge influx of "pedophiles" in the coming years.

"Do no evil" indeed, Google.

This isn't news, this is old. A while ago there was a big fuzz regarding gmail where they would display for you targeted ads based on the content of your email...

And then plant a bunch of cp in your devices and videos of children from your work place and make you confess to authorities, pretty easy.

Anyway, I bet Google uses the sex offenders database and then gives extra attention to these users.

The problem is this is a slippery slope. UK is already talking of making "torture porn" videos illegal, no matter whether they are real or not. Next you'll be jailed for looking at anything on liveleak that is offensive, and soon after that thought that can be construed as racism or anti-social. Alot of this surveillance technology has been "tested" on the pervs downloading CP because who is going to stand up for their civil rights after all. Only problem is the net will grow wider to look for more "deviants" to put away.

Someone in another thread made a good point too, why not scan for people involved in inside trading, or discussing buying drugs online, pirating movies, talking about speeding in their automobile? If you're going to turn criminals in, turn them ALL in.

You really think that invading everyone's privacy will make a difference. Open your eyes.
