Is it possible to mine using a smartphone? Ive seen some mining apps and curious if anyone has actually tried it
i think it's possible to mine using a smartphone, because a smartphone has a lot of applications which are developer by programming developer. i.e : android, ios (apple) or blackberry ... . You obviously have no idea. Ha Well, he's right in a way. Since there are a ton of applications for the various operating systems and platforms, there most likely are some mining softwares available. yet, people fail to see that a smartphone is hopelessly underpowered to actually achieve any profit. We're talking about a factor of 10'000x here...

Maybe the people looks at the octacore or quadcore cpu of the latest smartphones and thinks that they could have a great computing power usable for bitcoin mining.

It's impossible to mine with a smartphone, I didn't tried because I fear the keyloggers or wallet stealers but their cpu power is negligible.

Now old PC is not suitable for mining. So how can you think about mining with Smartphone. I think is it a waste of time.

Mining with a five high end GPU's is useless. Why do you think a smartphone would be any better?

I think it's impossible. I wonder how hot my phone if it possible to mining with smartphone. And sure the hash power is quite low if it possible using smartphone for mining.
With 2 Nexus 7, you can get ~4.7 GHs with easy miner. I heard that notion ink adam works with easy miner. Kindly, MZ really? Can you provide proof? I think, It's really impossible Sorry was a mis reading. Kindly, MZ

I think he thinks that he can get good hash rate with it and he can consume electricity costs. Kindly, MZ

Normal desktop computer performs far better and they consume a lot of power and emit a lot of heat. Smartphones are designed to be used with less power while emit less heat and not require cooling. Therefore, smart phone processors cannot be compared to normal desktop processors.

I mean they could've a 256-core and yet it wouldn't be profitable. There's a reason why the CPU power gets spread across cores. And the reason isn't because it's faster or you could put the power in a single core (well, to a bit, it actually is). People have a completely flawed understanding of what processing power actually is and how it scales.

The good thing about mining with smartphone is you can just mine it while you are in class, dorm anywhere you at... Just if ASIC is not that bulky...

It emits too much heat. If you are thinking about bringing it around, get rid of the heat issue first then power issue. Why don't you just set up ASIC at your own house? You don't have to move it around and you also don't have to pay for mobile services for mining. It would be troublesome to bring such an inefficient ASIC around, I doubt it can even submit a single share.

I think someone had written a javascript miner. If that's the case a modern phone should be able to run that miner. Of course you can't earn anything form this sort of mining...
It wouldn't be hard to port a Java miner to Android either. But again, no reason to mine using such a device. You'll NEVER generate a single block in your lifetime I bet...

You can mine with a smartphone, but you can never profit from it or even earn a amount which you could probably use in a trade so no its not even something to think about you can't do it.

I tried an apk on my Flex and it was giving me 4mH/s
4MH/s? With that 4 MH/s, you can get about 10 satoshi for 24 hours lol. Just forget it, it won't work.

There are a few apps which can mine Scrypt and SHA256. They aren't very efficient and I never get to submit a single share while my Phone overheated. Even with the best phone, you cannot surpass the hashrate of a normal desktop computer in terms of temperature and hashrates.

Don't mine with a smartphone or a laptop. And at this point, I would not recommend a GPU rig either. In fact, I wouldn't recommend getting into ASICs even, unless you have a reliable chip supplier that will work cheap and fast...
