Bitcoin, a mysterious currency that first appeared five years ago, is widely accepted as more people embrace the digital money. But it's not without controversy.

"I started getting more into it when a poker site I was playing announced they would have cash-outs in Bitcoins," said Chicago resident Jason Lademan.
Every time a block is mined, a certain amount of BTC (called the subsidy) is created out of thin air and given to the miner. The subsidy halves every four years and will reach 0 in about 130 years.

It's growing very fast in 1st world countries, because they have the infrastructure to support it. {ATM installations, fast and reliable and cheap Bandwidth, to host eCommerce sites, that supports BTC

In 3rd world countries, where it is needed the most, for it's cheaper and fast micro transaction, it's growing slowly, due to the challenges, I mentioned above.

Once the 3rd world countries gain access to this, it will explode.  Grin

Well, give NBC5 Chicago props where they're due -- they may not have found Satoshi, but they've managed to track down Andreas Antonopolous's evil twin, "Mike"...  Cheesy

Although they didn't really add any "news" to what people have already heard about Bitcoin, I am glad that they aired this piece if for nothing else but to inform people that may have not heard about it yet. The more people that are aware of it, the better for us all. Now we just need some companies (like coinbase) to give away some small amount of Bitcoins to new users so that people can become familiar with how they transact and Bitcoin adoption will increase even further.
