Due to the recent and ongoing censorship of bitcoin.it wiki Trade and Trade_R articles by MagicalTux, I set up http://bitcoinsites.witcoin.com/ to allow any user to submit any site and to additionally allow for discussions for each site.  Feel free to post any site and associate related keywords to help indexing.

Gambling sites are censored/banned from the wiki now.  Feel free to submit all bitcoin-related sites to http://bitcoinsites.witcoin.com without fear of any censorship.

Also mentioned at https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Talk:Trade#Alternative_listing_of_bitcoin-related_sites

Anyway the trade page is way too long, listing shouldn't be on the wiki (this is no longer information, but just promotion)

Is this a suggestion to kill the trade page altogether?

Someone has to build a new "free" wiki/website ( like bitcoincharts ) only dedicated to trade website/services.
It should be somewhere out of japan/us and other country with the same problems.

Also outside of EU, and outside of most countries connected to internet. Starts to be a bit harder, but still possible.

Anyway there are too many bitcoin-related sites to just handle those on a wiki. Someone suggested a search engine, I think it could be a good idea.

Please, no! I think it's a very good idea to show how many people accept bitcoins, to show that it's not just yet another geeky project with no users. It's also very useful to bitcoiners who are looking for ways to spend their money (myself included).

This is a great initiative, but are you sure witcoin is the right platform for that? The current list is almost unreadable, with all the images and the bad formatting. A clean list like the current wiki page (but uncensorred) would be much better.

If it's too long, it should be structured, not removed

I don't think linking to a gambling site is illegal in Japan?

Well they could use ".bit" domain address and be outside of any jurisdiction ... it can easily be arranged for a donation of the namecoins if they are needed for registration.

I agree that censorship is horrible. I have setup a site to help function as a bitcoin directory that allows users and people that run companies/projects involving bitcoins to list themselves to the community.

The url is:  http://bitcookies.com

I have started to list a few of the sites, but really I just started working on it seriously this evening. The site is still very early beta running on my project box, and I would like to have it as a nice comprehensive Bitcoin resource for the communities reference.

If anyone has any feedback, feel free to let me know so I can improve things. This is a very early project that I think the bitcoin community really needs. Especially one that is not censored on content.

Also - feel free to add any worthwhile bitcoin businesses that you are aware of (or feel free to review ones you have done business with!). I plan to add as many as I have time for that I know to do good business. But I'm sure everyone out there has done good business with at least a few people?

Thanks!

How is the TLD/Root issue handled with .bit? I believe this would be a good addition to add to the existing (but horrible ICANN controlled) domain the server sits on.

Very nice concept! Maybe the website is a bit too crowded though, it took me a while to understand how it works. But other than that, I think this is a very useful project for the bitcoin community.
