Never used coinbase, blockchain.info is a decent wallet, just remember not to store too many btc on any online wallet service.

I haven't used Coinbase but I think blockchain.info is great and would thoroughly recommend it. Just make sure you set up all the security features it has and especially 2-factor authentification.

Why not use a desktop wallet, in which case you are in control of the money as opposed to a server owning the money? (data = money) You could use Electrum, Multibit, Armory.. Either way from those two I'd pick blockchain, but only for small amounts.

Blockchain.info is a little bit different in that you control your private keys so that's another advantage, though the desktop wallets you recommend are also good, though it depends how he's going to use his wallet. A lot of people seem to have a bc.in wallet as their spending coins and a desktop as their 'savings'.

Why do you need to choose? Use both or all 3 {Blockchain included} and split the coins and the risk. The chances of all 3 of them running with your coins or being hacked is VERY small. And most of your coins should be on cold storage anyways. {Paper wallets} so what can you loose? I use lots of wallets, for testing and comparison purposes and to show friends how BTC works. {I like blockchain the most...Interface is clean and userfriendly}

Use blockchain.info with 2fa and encrypted backup. It is as safe as non multisig online wallets go.

Coinbase is a shared wallet service which does not allow you to access your bitcoin directly as you do not have the private key. It is a hassle if they experience downtime when you need access to the coin. Blockchain.info on the otherhand, allows you to control your private key yourself by sending you a copy of it. You do not need to be afraid of downtimes since the private key will always be in your control. Blockchain.info is generally very safe with 2 factor authentication. Anyone can bruteforce your coinbase account with your email but not Blockchain.info since they need a long string of letters and numbers to access your account.

After what happen to mtgox and tradefotress, I believe cold storage or keeping in your bitcoin-qt is the best....

Between the two, blockchain.info wallet is better. Coinbase works exactly as same way as mtgox, and you don't have the private keys of your bitcoin. Blockchain.info works differently. The site keeps the an encrypted version of your wallet file only, with both decryption and encryption done within your browser. And so you are the only one having the access to your private keys. Please also enable 2FA to improve the safety further.
