I recommend to just use the basic Bitcoin core client.
If you dont want to wait until blockchain download has finished you can choose the MultiBit client.

If a US resident Coinbase also a nice online wallet offering particularly given the new Vault functionality they recently implemented.

I am using coinbase wallet for storing my BTC. It's really nice, easy and fast . but it is online wallet any hacker can try to hack your account and steal your BTC . money is not safe here if we think negative part of this. I think COLD storage is the best way to secure your BTC from greedy people online . my advice be careful from scammer and hackers online .

I like MultiBit for the daily use. It's simple, clean and works pretty well. If you want to have a long term storage or just 'observe' your stash without being able to spend it, I'd recommend you to try Electrum or Bitcoin Armory! Electrum has got an awesome seed feature, as well that let's you backup your wallet from a 12-word seed!

For a beginner: I would say that multibit is the best. It is very easy to use, and very hard to mess up.

bitcoin-qt because it is always the safest keeping money yourself, just don't let hacker took it..

The core Bitcoin-QT is relatively safe if you encrypt the wallet and are careful to avoid getting malware/trojans onto your machine.  If you are not careful then there's no more security having your keys in that file and accessible to whoever can access your backdoor.

You would need to keep the wallet offline if you're sloppy and download all kinds of "junk"

I like Multibit but I mainly use Coinbase's wallet service. I know a lot of people are afraid to use keep their BTC online but I personally feel very safe with Coinbase.
Especially now that they've introduced the Vault which allows you to store your BTC offline. If you verify your phone number you get added protection too, like if you log on from an unknown device, they'll send code to your phone that you'll need to enter before you can access your account.
The cool thing about keep my BTC online is that I can access it anywhere  Smiley

Electrum. It is awesome man. It gives you this 12-word seed. This is like a code you just have to remember or write down (somewhere safe) and it generates all your addresses from this seed, it's like magic. I don't even know how this works, man! But it's awesome and easy to use, really!!!

Yeah, but I think the biggest caveat of BitcoinQT is still that it has to download the whole freaking Blockchain! It's just too big nowadays. Therefore I really do prefer a lightweight client like MultiBit...
