I recently had my first experience paying for food and beverages in a restaurant using BTC. It was a really fun experience to use bitcoins "in the real world" and not just for internet commerce. I'm wondering what other people's first experence using their bitcoins fact-to-face was like.

Haven't had that pleasure yet. There's no place to buy anything with bitcoin where I live, I can't even buy anything online with bitcoin in my backwards country

I think it's difficult as it is at the moment to actually spend coins online never mind instore. I heard there's a lot of shops in Amsterdam that accept it and I'll probably be going there later this year so I'll probably try my first face to face transaction there.

I prefer FIAT for F2F Tx. Bitcoin is online money and an investment asset for me. I prefer to spend my FIAT and HODL Bitcoin

I haven't spent my coins on anything yet, partly because I haven't got many and would like to hold on to them for a while, but also because there's nothing I've really wanted to spend them on so far, but hopefully that will change soon enough.

I haven't done any face to face transactions yet I would like to find a store which would accept Bitcoin in that manner around my local area though.

I agree with the folks who said they prefer to hold bitcoin and spend fiat. That's generally my strategy these days too. Still, it was fun to at least once, do a face-to-face bitcoin purchase. Yummy beer and food for btc, I felt like the future had arrived

I just did my first face-to-face purchase at Fuel Sports bar in Seattle, USA. Very cool experience. What's weird is I didn't even know they were taking bitcoins until very rcently. Makes me wonder if any other places in my area take BTC. I would definitely do it again. Felt really good to trade btc for delicious beer!

Never had a face-to-face transaction using Bitcoins. TBH, I find fiat to be more practical in f2f transactions. Bitcoins are ideal for digital / online commerce. Just my opinion though and the conveience of f2f transactions is bound to imrpove over time.

FWIW, my experience was extremely smooth. The server simply handed me a tablet where I could add any tip to the bill and then press a button. After the button press I was presented with a qr code. I snapped a pic of it with my android bitcoin wallet and pressed send. 10 seconds later the server said, "cool" and that was that. My friend and I talked about the fact that the restaurant didn't seem worried about my transaction getting confirmations and the we realized that restaurants already have a kind of trust system---you can get away with dine-and-dash if you are that kind of asshole. The system is basically one where you pay your bill properly in order to maintain honor at that particular restaurant.

Never used Bitcoins in face to face transactions, but only due to lack of acceptance here.
How it is? They trust you for zero confirmation transactions, or they only allow you to go after X confirmations? Or they use some kind of 3th part processor?

I bought a coffee at Vapelab in London. I did it only because I have forgotten to take my wallet though, otherwise I wouldn't.

I actually haven't had a face to face yet. I have sold some Jordans through this forum for BTC and that went very smoothly. I sent the shoes internationally, and had no issues.
I have had some people offer to meet up (that I met through this forum), to purchase some of the Supreme clothing that I have for sale, but most of the people found this thread using a google search (I am assuming), and just signed up for an account here to contact me, because each of them have been wanting to pay in fiat. Some of them didn't even know what Bitcoin was...

Wait for confirmation is really not needed for micro transaction (e.g. coffee, restaurant etc.) - the "price" and time it take to execute a double spend will not be worth the effort. But If buying a car, house, boat, 1kg of gold etc. then yes, then is a few confirms needed.

I don't know exactly what you mean, but as I said in my post, if you're going to a restaurant, they typically give you the bill after you've already eaten everything anyway. So there's already a matter of trust. In my case, the server said "all good" before any confirmations, but then again, it would be weird to say ok you have to wait for 10 minutes while we get a new block (plus the waitstaff doesn't even know what a block is, they're just following on-screen instructions). For other types of transactions, obviously it's another story.
