ETA 4 HD ?

It's been a while since I've read any news about the forthcoming HD iteration of MultiBit.  Now that Trezor is beginning to ship, is there an estimate on when MB will be rolling out its new software?  ..and what are its significant new and improved features vis-a-vis the present v0.5.18?

Thanks for your interest in MultiBit HD.
Gary and I have been quietly working away on it over the summer and putting out a series of private betas of the code.

We are pretty soon going to release private-beta-3 which has various improvements, bug fixes etc.


There is also a website refresh in the works and we've also been working on an introductory YouTube video.

If you would like early access to the private beta installers, then please sign up to out private-beta mailing list which we are using to coordinate work. It's here:

MultiBit HD mailing group

MultiBit HD is a complete rewrite of the codebase to address various limitations and improve usability. I much prefer it to MultiBit Classic.

As to when it will be released to the general public, it is hard to give an exact date. It'll be when the beta testing is all finished and the code is clean enough for the general public.

We expect at least another private beta, then a public beta to get more feedback and testing.

Thanks for all your hard work and the update, Jim!  I wish I knew more about software to help with the beta testing.  For now I patiently await your bringing MB-HD to all of us.

In the meantime, I'll be sending a couple more donations to your work.  I'm looking forward to BRIT's help with getting your team better compensated in the future.

So maybe we can hope to get MultiBit HD released in first half of 2015?

Little bit OT:
In the vid there is use of cloud backup recommended, especially spideroak.
I looked short at spideroak. You need to install a client that synchronizes a folder with the spideroak servers. Also one has to register first. Nothing for me. Maybe it's a good way for computer noobs, I don't know. I would never trust such a client program. It could spy on other folders on Your computer. But one should use a dedicated old computer for Bitcoin only with fresh and minimal Linux installed, anyway, without any other software.
In any case in my opinion the Multibit HD files should first be stored in an encrypted archive that encryption can be somehow trusted, like 7zip or rar, preferabley with also enrcrypted file listing, so nobody can see what is in the archive.
Only such a pre-encrypted file should be put in the cloud. But one needs a good (long) password. So likely that password has to be written on paper somewhere.
I would prefer to store the encrypted 7zip or rar archive on a private web hosting account that many people have (preferably on a folder above the DocumentRoot of the Webserver). One could also store the encrypted archive file as an attachement of an email on the email providers mail archive folder.

All backup systems are a trade-off: work/cost vs. true safety/security. I guess we all use the ones we're most comfortable with. But it seems good to me that MB-HD makes this one common and easily deployed system available for all to use natively. After all, the HD project and offering -- as I understand it -- are all about providing a more secure platform for Everyman.

The cloud backup is already AES encrypted using a key derived from the seed phrase.
