Not so sure about that.  If there's no benefit to being legendary other than a half yellow coin (which kinda looks like a missing half in my browser for some reason) then I doubt advertizers are going to pay more.

Not so sure about that.  If there's no benefit to being legendary other than a half yellow coin (which kinda looks like a missing half in my browser for some reason) then I doubt advertizers are going to pay more.

You mean the activity necessary for being a Legendary? Don't know. I guess it is only for the lulz, because you gain no more privileges in the forum, so no one will be hurt if takes some more or less time to reach the Legendary rank

EDIT: and he doens't apply manually, Theymos said it is random, independent of any factor like posts, bribes, flatter to the mods, donations, etc...

It doesn't make sense though, because that final jump is literally 14 months, well 9-16 months. And then during the additional 9-16 months, it will increase with inflation to keep the numbers down. In 14 months, if every other account on the forum was active, they'd all have become hero - that's how long that final jump is.

Not even considering that activity is still limited in that its a time based metric.

I think you'll find that the mean is much lower than you think due to the vast number of new accounts. Anything below the mean would likely be Newbie.

If we have access to the numbers then we could discuss more specifically what such a scheme would look like.  I don't think we have to assume that people are honest (we should probably assume the opposite) that doesn't mean we can't consider other types of systems.  If, for example, we made a statistical system which took skewness into account then we could probably counteract any mass-account-farming action meant to tip the distribution.  I'm just saying that the idea needs more details filled in, without the details it's hard to argue the merits.

The current activity required for "level up" are 30, 60, 120, 240, 480, ~900 (middle of 775 and 1030).
So, maybe we will need a new rank 2 years later but then it will be 5 years and 10 years, as the activity required for the new level will be doubled every time.

But with the variance stuff, the requeriments for ranks will change every time, so many will be in one position, and next hour in another, then back the the starting one, and so for.

Will generate lots of complains and will be a pain to signature campaigns.
