My free Avast and Norton have stopped working now :/ I'm installing Malwarebytes now and I'm going to download Kaspersky too. Should I be safe enough with these two? Are these the official sites to download them safely? https://www.malwarebytes.org/http://www.kaspersky.com/Connection to http://www.kaspersky.com/ doesn't have "confirmed identity" so I would like to get confirmation about this is the real site. Edit: Looks like I really needed it

Or don't use windows? I mean seriously, why do you even use it?
Because linux is horrible to use IMO and I like windows. And there is viruses for other os too.

I'm using free version of Avira, and it works perfectly fine for me. I use it now 5 years, and still happy! You should give it a try, very light, nearly no impact on your system. Of course, be careful with what you download as well

I would just use a free solution and not pay for one because they all pretty much do the same thing warn you about possible virus.

I always stick with browser plugins like ghostery/noscript. malwarebytes & spybot S&D + ccleaner to keep system in shape (all free). from my experience a virus always needs a careless user to execute it. be cautious with download sources, email attachments and external storages esp usb sticks. For a more secure environment throw linux on a second partition to boot from. i'm no expert but i'd say linux on VM doesn't help much if your computer is already infected.
and finally i make a fresh install of windows at least once a year, depends how littered the system gets with the time. If your setup is more complex with many types of software a mirrored backup of the partition with the virginal system is also quite handy. (in case your fed up with hour long installations of adobe suite et al)

Well, I have been using Kaspersky from more than 5 years now and it works like a charm. Use to buy at first but i found this one online and it's been working without any problem from more than 8months, it's a 1year version so you can check it out. Link

There are many, but itś better to use vmware image. In case there is a virus - you can always go back to older copy

Honestly, what I use at home on my windows machine is Microsoft Security Essentials...Seems to actually work okay and does a decent job.
