I noticed the same thing, it is very laggy and slow.   

Another thing i noticed is people placing 0 btc bets, it seems completely pointless when there is a faucet they can claim free satoshis to play with.  Maybe the 0 btc betting is contributing to some of the lag?

Absolutely. You can do a DDOS if you have enough people betting 0.
