Ello Smiley

Firstly please note, I have changed one FPGA everywhere below in my examples from "ICA" to "BFL" to show an effect of the change.

Currently cgminer 2.3.1 screen looks similar to this if you have multiple different FGPA's and also GPU's working:

Code:
cgminer version 2.3.1m - Started: [2012-03-25 20:43:39]

The API reports these in 'devs' as:
GPU=0, info...
GPU=1, info...
PGA=2, Name=ICA, ID=2, info...
PGA=3, Name=BFL, ID=3, info...

This means that as currently (and for almost a year) GPU's show on the screen "GPU"

However, since they have been working in cgminer, FPGA's have been showing a name matching the FPGA.
At the moment it shows (as above) the three letters of either "ICA" or "BFL"
(Though "ICA" was originally "Icarus" for the first 6 days the code was in the git until it was changed to 3 characters)

Since "ICA" and "BFL" are both "FPGA":
Would you prefer cgminer to say "PGA" everywhere it currently says "ICA" and "BFL"?
(on the screen and in the API)

i.e. the screen would something look like:
Code:
cgminer version 2.3.1m - Started: [2012-03-25 20:43:39]
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

i.e. not differentiate on the screen between different FPGA's

OR would you prefer it to stay the way it is?

Vote for "PGA" if you want it changed to "PGA"

Vote for "BFL or ICA or ..." if you want it to stay the same as it is now

Luke-jr you do realise that you are offering options that are not going to happen with this change?

... and your post is not correct Tongue

The reason for the poll was exactly as stated in the first post - to resolve a decision about changing things exactly as stated in the first post.

The rest of the code that will allow the first 2 options Luke-jr has shown in the future when no one cares if their terminals aren't wide enough by default, can happen with either poll choice - the poll choice does not effect the first 2 options Luke-jr displayed above in any way in the future.

Quote
Or the options kanoi left out... (choose "PGA" if you like these, since it's the same code)
Both poll choices will allow for Luke's shown option 1 and option 2 in the future.

Interestingly though, option 3 requires the "PGA" option to be undone if the "PGA" option is chosen.
However it doesn't require that with the "BFL or ICA or ..." poll option.

Kano,

This is just a display change.  You will still return ICA, BFL devices in "gpucount"  (nDevs) API, right?
Or you are planning to provide fpgacount(), fpgadev() APIs?

The commands will not change and the number of devices that will be returned will not change.

However, currently in the API, "gpucount" only returns the number of GPU's (not FPGA's also)
"pgacount" returns the number of FPGA's

... and that will stay that way also of course Smiley

The API "devs" command returns all devices: GPU's, FPGA's, (and those other unsupported things Smiley )

(and the FPGA codes at the bottom don't match the top)

ckolivas is away for 10 days so I guess I'll leave it running for another 10 ...

OK more than 2 weeks now - and it hasn't changed much - always option 2 clearly in the lead (after there were a few votes)
