I let it run on a Mac mini i7 with HD (not SSD) for 14.5 hours using bootstrap.dat and the txindex=1 in bitcoin.conf. I'm now at block 277'000 (December 26th 2013). It's slowing down like crazy.

Anybody care to share their timings? Thx!

EDIT: The sync is over. It took me 23 hours with Bootstrap.dat and txindex=1. Be careful if you're using the 0.9.2.1 version. You can fix a bug that slows down the syncing here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=746840.0

That is probably reasonable given the current blockchain size.  If it was really slow (e.g. days) you'd want to make sure that "app nap" was turned off.

If you are referring to the initial sync then it will likely take several days if you are using a personal computer/laptop. You can speed up the process somewhat by downloading the bootstrap of the blockchain but the "recent" part of the blockchain is going to be the most "dense" as it has many more TX per block, on average as bitcoin use has picked up.

I would not worry about it taking this long. Once you get it synched, as long as you let it run at least once per day it will generally not get out on synch.
