A fully self-funded mockumentary entitled OBAM (Operation Bitcoin Awareness Movement). Three dudes (white, A-A, and a Hindu) and a blonde dudette travel the countryside (eventually world) try to convince diverse prospects to accept bitcoins (and/or other cryptocurrency) for their various products and services. Along the way they hold court with prostitutes, politicians, clergy, gang members, boys and girl scouts, old folks in homes, cops to see if they would accept bribes via bitcoins, Amish, newborn fresh from the womb,... You get the picture. Some of the content can be scripted, some not. Viewers can send in suggestions, or may have a relative/friend that they desire to convert, needing the team to help in this effort. The more skill sets the four have, the better the show. Think Bubbles playing Rush on guitar. I did say self-funded, thus introducing OBAM Coin. And, the four star's character's names start with one of the letters, viz. Oliver, Betty, Ahman and Mondo. God damn Bruno! 912 posts since June 28 of this year! How do you find the time? Do you post while you're shitting and eating? On Topic: Yes, I think that's a very good idea. Especially Rush on guitar. I honestly do post during my longggggggg shit sessions. My 64 year neighbor looks like Geddy Lee and HE wears dresses. And, you're not going to believe this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rs4qn_bHQQ0 (hence the reference)

^^^Anybody else think O.B.A.M. (think Man from U.N.C.L.E.) is a good idea? If so, I'll move this over to project development. I've been toying with this idea for a couple days now, figuring this thread is as good a place as any to see if there's interest. The naming of the show just came to me when I opened up the reply section and readying to pen my first post in this thread.

Since we're brainstormin' to the nth degree, it's not outside the realm of possibilities to incorporate your idea, along with the best of the others presented in this thread, into the O.B.A.M. Mockumentary. À la Mission: Impossible, O:B:A:M (change title again) episodes start out with all four getting their next assignment(s) from Satoshi. Each time they make some mundane purchase, they ask the clerk if they accept bitcoins. While walking to some final destination where they're about to start the task of converting somebody, they always pass some place of business that already has a sign in the window depicting "Bitcoins Accepted Here" but they pay it no mind, but always stopping in front of it for some weird-ass reason, e.g. <The last person is about to pass the obvious sign in the window, when he/she yells outs...> Hey, guys! Look at this. <seeing him about to point what you think is the sign> <the others double-back to see what it is> <Now, pointing to the groud (or up, or across the street)> First time I've even seen a penny in a cement sidewalk before. <lame, but you get the idea> <Then a dialog continues on about the penny, how it got there, etc. till the shop owner comes out (always the same shop owner - continual gag) and tells them to move on. The final episode could be that that shop owner that's in every episode turns out to be...>

Discount Discounts Discounts for people who pay with BTCI have explained it fully here --> https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=747324.new#newIf I visit a shop or I go online, and I see the item, I were looking for was on 20% discount, if you paid with BTC - I would most certainly, consider buying some BTC and paying with that. These discounts could be funded at first, with the lower fees, companies are paying. {Once adoption increase, discounts could be reduced or removed} This is the only way to increase adoption amongst consumers, using traditional payment methods.

Bitcoin is already in online news a lot of times.
BTC can be promoted if at local level people start spreading the word about it, its advantages and its usefulness.
Markets should start accepting BTC too.

The best promotion is adoption by large online companies. All we need is Amazon and Ebay and then anyone who hasn't heard of Bitcoin will!

A good old fashioned FB viral effort could do it:
1. Start a BTC campaign FB page, or use an existing one + get someone (or many ppl) to donate 1.5BTC for this 'awareness' campaign.
2. of this 1.5BTC, divide 1BTC into 500 or 0.002BTC ie ~50c (or whatever multiple you want).
3. get word 'out' via posters around town or through facebook or whatever works in your area, that the 'next 500 people who like the fb page will get some free btc' via facebook (ie quickcoin). Avoid using BTC forums, this would mean BTC converts will just take the BTC for themselves which is a waste. Id try reaching out to fans of Snoop dog or other musicians that are selling their albums via btc, or something like that.
4. distribute that 0.002btc to the subsequent 500 'likes' received and at the same time:
5. tell them when they get that 0.002btc that if they send that to someone, and that person sends it to another person and that person to another person etc (like a pass the parcel game), that the first one to prove they have sent it through 20 people, that the originator will receive a prize of 0.5btc (which is the remainder of the original 1.5btc investment). This part can be changed to whatever way you want, like the prize can be shared among the 20 people for eg, but its important to get people to convince their friends to receive the btc and then they send it to someone who has to convince the next person etc.
6 repeat every time you can get 1.5btc investment.
This way you get people actively/aggressively spreading the word out and at the same time getting people to use btc (sending and receiving). Once they dip their feet in, it opens the flood gates and they are way more likely to re-dip on their own later.
Next, once they then become aware of where they can spend btc (which is what you can do via fb posts) now that they know how to use it, it should be more likely those people will go buy btc on their own afterwards and hopefully get some more believers along the way.
I think youd get the first 500 people pretty easily, then after that youd have maybe 5% of those actively seeking the prize meaning they'd try to convert another 2~20 people on their own too. So thats 500 to 750 people reached with 1.5 BTC spent...
Whatever you do when promoting, i'd always skip ideology and economics and technology when converting the average joe. keep it light, simple get them to have fun using it and just show them how fast it is and that its cool 'cos you can do it over facebook or apps etc. the average joe doesnt care about the things 90% of us here signed up for, so keep it simple and fun and centered around gadgets they already use: phones apps and facebook.

In some sub-forum I saw someone has created a iOS and Android game where you play a super hero and earn free bitcoins along the process. That can work.
Also we need a killer app like WhatsApp which makes it a lot easier to send BTC to people on your contact list. Think of a WhatsApp where you choose someone from your contact list, input the amount you want to send and the payment instantly goes out to recipient.
