Since when are life forms that originated on Earth "extra-terrestrial"? What about the astronauts? Are they "extra-terrestrial" too? Roll Eyes

Very misleading title in the story.  They found life from Earth. And it does not even say the the surface plankton they found were alive. It's a cool observation, but it is in no way extra-terrestrial life. As far as I know, only tardigrades have survived a visit into space.

That is not the first neither the last "ET" simple of life form discovered.
Just "meh" with these news, but I expect that one day they can find something more interesting like an hydra(not the mythology one, ofc).

We've definitely found FOSSILISED micro-organisms on places like Mars apparently, but not actual sentient aliens or animal life that we experience on Earth, to do that we'd basically have to find a planet with an actual atmosphere and water. Whenever news networks talk about science I want to facepalm constantly, especially when they talk about Richard Bransons stupid fucking plane and call it a spaceship.

I have to take exception to that. There has never been a finding of life or fossils anywhere in the universe except earth. If we had it would be the greatest scientific discovery in all of human history. The tiny blobs that were found also occur on Earth and are caused by geologic processes. When they were first observed there was a lot of excitement, but alas, it was a rock.  Undecided

Okay, media at it again so I need to make sure I dig deeper on this sort of stuff, they found microbes on a meteorite but they're still not 100% sure whether it originated from Mars or not.

It is difficult because, as you mention, the media has to make up a better story. Even the story in this thread is like that. I teach science or I would likely not know the truth either. In fact most people I meet think that life was found on Mars. I wish. That would be HUGE beyond anything.
I would want to know if it was DNA based life. If it was, I would assume it is related to Earth life. If it was based on a different molecule...   Shocked I would assume life is common throughout the universe.

A kind off topic but...
