So we've all noticed the new "legendary member" status - just a post to say to all "newbies" that even us "legendary members" were also newbies once and also understand that as accounts are *sold* here don't think that just because a forum member appears to be "legendary" doesn't mean they couldn't actually be a scammer.

Before you *trust* any forum member you'd be best to check that member's posting history and also their reputation (and no - my account is not for sale).

Equally, although it hasn't been explicitly stated, don't think that newbies really are new here either. I mean you go to the Lending sub-forum and half the posters are newbies but naturally they have been there before and keen just to scam a quick buck...

I've not seen this level of account buying and selling though since I came to this forum. Seems the PrimeDice collapse has really triggered some firesales.

I'm reminded daily that I am a newb at so many things related to bitcoin. Frankly, I like learning new things. Being a perma-nub is fine with me.

Sincere and simple message.
Glad to hear it and will hold onto the warning.

I have a related question.
I'm assuming that most legendary players, not just here, but people regarded as great assets to bitcoin as a whole,
that these people all came to bitcoin with transferable knowledge & experience of computer science, cryptography, market economics or one of many other useful subjects of knowledge.
Am I wrong in this? Is there anyone you regard as a bitcoin gem that came into it with zero useful knowledge?

There are a few *gems* here but unfortunately they are buried under the "pile of crap" that makes money out of of people that don't think carefully.

Look towards those than generally only post in the Technical sub-forums for quality posts (steer well away from the Speculation sub-forum).

Hello CIYAM, thanks for the warning!

I am surprised to know members here sell their accounts. I assume that means they're not flush with money as everybody says? Tongue
I have a pretty well considered profile on a long-standing website but I'd never sell it!

The whole account selling thing is a problem but as long as the forum is going to allow it I think everyone needs to be warned not to trust accounts just because of "their status".

If you ever see my account offering some *investment* then know that it is not me (in my entire post history I have never done that)!

Agree that the Tech forum is where much of the best discussion takes place. Disagree that people should categorically stay away from the Speculation sub-forum. Some of the most macro-economically thought-provoking discussion I've found anywhere over the past few years has occurred in the gold-vs-bitcoin threads that live in the Spec section.

Bitcoin is the first monetary system to credibly offer perfect information to all economic participants.

I'm not sure if adding another rank is really such a good idea. There isn't a problem with having a high number of hero members. I think it is preferable to simply increase the number of posts to attain each rank if a better differentiation of users is the aim.

After some time we'll have as much legendary members as we have hero members today. What rank is to be introduced next? Maybe "divine hero"? Cheesy

I see rank inflation approaching.

Solid advice. Though I doubt that many (if any) Legendary level accounts have been sold, I am sure many JR-SR and even some hero level accounts have so checking the post history is the best way to be safe.

Sage advice from a Legendary member.   Smiley

I kinda miss "Newbie Hell", before Theymos or whoever done away with it.  You were forced to abide by posting timeouts, posting only in the Newbie forum, forced to witness and pay attention to how senior members posted and interacted in the main forum topics.

I only recently became a Senior member, but I still don't feel Senior in my knowledge or know how regarding Bitcoin and cryptocurrency.  Personally, I'm learning something new everyday here in BCT, and just being a sponge to the Legendary and Hero members that post quality threads here and there.

As for the selling of accounts, I'm kinda ambivalent to it.  If users want to pay for an account to use for sig campaign, to use for whatever purpose, I guess technically there's no rules or guidelines against it.  As the others have been saying, before dealing or doing business with any member, Newbie all the way up to Legendary, you have to check Trust, Post History, and if possible USE ESCROW DAMIT!   Grin
