Help us bring bitcoin to our local area!

1) Show your local restaurant how much demand their is in your area. Add your name to the petition, if enough people sign up in your area, we could easily convince a restaurant into accepting bitcoin!
2) Using the Umapper tool, anyone can easily add themselves to the map. on the map you can write a post, stating your wish list or items you want to sell for bitcoin.
3) At the very least, put a marker in your general location, so we can better target the best location for the first restaurant to accept bitcoin, in your area

Edit the map! http://www.umapper.com/maps/edit/id/126278/

adding to the map couldn't be easier. give it a try!

Great idea! One way we could do it is for each local bitcoin meetup to insist that the restaurant/bar they meet at on a regular basis accept bitcoin, and if they do, add their information to thebitcoinreview.

yes add the petition marker next to the meetup local, stat your demands, and start getting people to sign.

please make markers for anything "bitcoin local" related.

I was just thinking about this.  Great idea.

I want to make a point.  Which businesses will be most easily persuaded to give Bitcoin a go?  IMO, it will be the independent businesses.  My reasoning is that independent local business owners should be more accessible to Cash Mobbers to hear the case of Bitcoin.  Additionally, CC merchant charges weigh more heavily in the mind of smaller operations.

agreed,

place your general location on the map, as more people do this, we will be able to target the best location for the first restaurant/bar to accept bitcoin in your area

I wanted to do something like this a while ago, but I don't make website & everyone told me no one will post.  Let's hope people post!

Two thoughts:

1) can we have people post how many bitcoins they have ready to spend?

This will help us understand how much capital stores can access.  Is it $100 worth of marketshare or is it $10,000 worth of marketshare?

2) we could verify these amounts just so that duplication of bitcoins for markets wouldn't happen by posting spending wallet addresses.

I'm sure this would be tough to track & have people be honest about, but it's a thought I had.

I think having market data on where the bitcoins are ready to spend is very valuable to help people like me focus my efforts on the markets with a critical mass of bitcoin users/spenders.

Coinbase for selling BTCs
Fold for spending BTCs

Yes, posting about how much you'd spend pre year would be good
I dont think we need to verify amounts, the fact that they signed says enough

I see Someone is playing with the map Smiley, please zoom out b4 saving the map
Thank you!

Well I think we need a POS and smartcard implementation up and running first:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=7539.40

That done the bitcoin community should choose a town or city and massively launch bitcoin there.

At first we would launch one smallish town in each continent, then each state/country of 10 mil + people and so on.

A "Launch" could be something like the following:
1. Sending BTC smartcards to every or most residents - younger/marginalized/IMMIGRANT workers.
2. Renting out BTC POS terminals to many of the shops.
3. Free BTC donations to first time users in town.
4. BTC promoters/users/tourists/millionaires prioritize going to that town and spend a coin or two if they can.
5. Contact media outlets.
6. BTC businesses are already located there or re-locate there - paying in BTC naturally.

By focusing our energy we can skip over the slow adoption phase and accelerate things markedly.

Now what towns should we go with for (my ideas in parenthesizes):
Europe ("Totnes" - http://blog.inpolis.com/2012/03/19/towns-in-transition-resilient-innovation-as-response/)
North America
Asia
South America
Australia
Africa

Well behaving like a douche won't get you organized much  Wink

How are you going to conveniently SEND bitcoins?

Ask everyone to get an Android phone?

Get lost if they only have IPhones?

Ask old grand mothers to manually punch in your BTC address on their old Nokia then send a text to this niche BTC sms pay site that turns out to be a scam later?

Everyone in the Western world uses credit cards/smart cards because it is EASY - get with the program.
