I ordered 2 of these. (well the other one that was listed) ( http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102979 )
One worked, one didnt. Tried in both rigs, all pci-e slots. Never booted. Be aware if you get a bad egg, newegg has a 15% restocking fee, which applies to refund as well. and you pay shipping back. So i ended up paying ~$152 (108 + $18 shipping to me + $12 shipping back + $16 restocking fee) for one.

Which was a crap deal in retrospect. Definitely not doing that again.

Newegg has a 30 day return policy on these. 30 days from order shipped out. Its clearly stated that if you exceed the 30 days (even while in transit, or if they have it and havent processed it yet) you're screwed.

Only buying from here, or new from newegg if i need more gpus in the future. :-(


Edit: One more thing i thought to mention. The one that worked, was EXTREMELY DIRTY. Looks like it sat in a computer for 4-5 months and was not taken care of at all. Dust caked up on almost every component. The non-working one was completely perfect. Looked BRAND new. No fingerprints or dust of any kind. Take that for what its worth.

I've learned that you have to talk to customer support at newegg to get a refund for things like DOA's.  Their system doesn't just automatically waive it.  They may even cover the return shipping if I recall correctly.

I have 3 of the extreme due to arrive from Newegg today. I'll update when I get them up and running. I bought 8 diamond 5830 refurbs this month and all were in like new condition except 1 had some dust on the memory chips.The fan and housing where all new. Some had different color coolers and either 3 or 4 heat pipes. All of them work great and OC to 950/315 and do 300mh/s. A good bang for the buck until 5970 become reasonably priced again or 7000 series come down some.

Since I moved all of my good cards to a dedicated rig this became my gamer/miner card that I put to work while sleeping, been running nightly at about 280 G/h since I bought it, QUIET!!! and error free.

this. I bought a bunch of 5770's last year and all of them were faulty. running 90c + at stock clocks. filled out an rma and they wanted a restocking fee plus shipping. called em and they took care of everything and gave me a 20$ gift card.

sometimes it pays to pick up the phone. i'll never rma something through the site again.

Edit: One more thing i thought to mention. The one that worked, was EXTREMELY DIRTY. Looks like it sat in a computer for 4-5 months and was not taken care of at all. Dust caked up on almost every component. The non-working one was completely perfect. Looked BRAND new. No fingerprints or dust of any kind. Take that for what its worth.

you must be unlucky - or i am the opposite.  12 arrived yesterday and none could be distinguished from new and all working as expected.  an extra nice thing is that they include 2 of the single molex to pci-e power adapters - not the 2 -> 1 type.

although i just looked and they show out of stock again......

edit:  actually i do have 1 small complaint with the cards - although it may be a software quirk.  of the first 4 i've had running 4+ hours their actual fan speed given the same percentage setting and reporting varies by 700 rpm.  they are all set for 65% in BAMT/phoenix with the lowest spinning @ 2200 and the highest 2900 rpm.  hmmm

I noticed the same thing. Not as drastic though. mine are ~200 rpm apart. 5830 from last year spins @ 3900rpm-3950rpm @ 90%, new one spins @ 3700-3750 @ 90%.

And yea, the backplate of the "dirty" one had 1-2 bent fins on the exhaust portion of the backplate. Straightened them after i sent the defective one back. otherwise (after i cleaned it) i couldnt tell them apart.

Bleh, no thanks.  They hash ok, but they're horribly inefficient vs. 5850/5870/5970.  Very good MH/$ though.

in the case of a 5970, the decline in value of the equipment itself would more than make up for the efficiency difference

it is in my case - in the same systems the 5830's draw 15 more watts and generate 50 Mh/s less than 5850's.
