A good image from a chinese site, look at how top 100 and top 1000 wallet changes during the latest market fall.

Top 1000 wallet holds more coins before the crash, means big players get bigger during market crash

A possible guess is that exchanges borrow coins from large miners to short the market and return those coins after the operation
