I've sent bitcoins to two different people that have had problems. I've also sent MANY bitcoins to a bunch of different people and had no problem whatsoever.
The first person with the problem thought he had done something wrong and uninstalled Bitcoin and reinstalled it. I was horrified to hear that because I figured the coins were gone forever. But somewhere along the way he got the coins. He said the uninstallation didn't take. He still doesn't know what he did that fixed the problem.
But the second person who is having difficulty hasn't done anything to fix the problem. But the problem still persists. He hasn't yet gotten the coins. And he says he's downloaded the entire blockchain, too.
Any thoughts?

First off, does your transaction appear on Blockchain.info? If not, there was a problem if you sent it from your local wallet. If you sent it from MtGox, be aware that transactions to other MtGox users won't appear on the blockchain.

I sent it from my wallet and it does appear in blockexplorer as not-yet-redeemed.

Is he sure that he's downloaded the entire blockchain? Ask him if the client is showing a green check-mark. If so, have him hover his mouse over that and let us know what the block number is.

I always test sending .01 bitcoins first. Then if that is successful, I send the rest.
When receiving bitcoins, I recommend a similar pratice. I tell the person to send me .01 bitcoins and if that works, then send along the remaining bitcoins.
Once you have the address in your client, send / receive with no problems. I'm just really paranoid with typing in/ or copying & pasting the 32 character address.

I now have two totally separate individuals that are having trouble receiving their payment. Here is one of the transactions. It's the most recent one. His is the 0.01 BTC tx. He says it was also a newly generated address that he gave me. He has fully downloaded the blockchain, too.
Since it is in the blockchain and not yet spent then the problem definitely has to be with that installation of the client. Is the client the latest version? Does the block number reported by the client jive with the latest block number from BlockExplorer? |

Also, what does -rescan mean?
Is that a command they need to run from their terminal? Such as bitcoin -rescan? What is the command for Windows version? Because one of them is running a Windows version.
