Okay I'm totally new to bitcoin have never, ever purchased/used before. I apologize if I've posted a topic that has already been covered but I was unable to find a proper answer for my question.
Basically I'm trying to buy something from an online vendor in the UK and because I live in the US the only option is for me is to use bitcoin.
I'm aware that I can buy fractions of bitcoin but here's the problem I'm having. I simply want to buy $40 worth of bitcoin and my question is: Is there anyway for me to do so without incurring a ridiculous fee for the transaction? Isn't there usually a minimum fee of $15 for buying bitcoin no matter what the amount? Would it be possible to purchase $40 dollars worth of bitcoin and only pay the standard 1% fee for this?
Can anyone provide me with some guidance on this and if possible links to a bitcoin exchange where this type of transaction would be possible.
Thanks.

Yes. Isn't there usually a minimum fee of $15 for buying bitcoin no matter what the amount?
That depends on where you are buying, but generally no. Most of the sellers I know of sell for a fee of 0% to 10%. That would be a maximum fee of $4 to buy $40 worth, and possibly less. Would it be possible to purchase $40 dollars worth of bitcoin and only pay the standard 1% fee for this?
Why do you say 1% is a "standard" fee? You might be able to buy with a 1% fee, you will probably be able to buy with a 5% fee, and you will certainly be able to buy with a 10% fee. Can anyone provide me with some guidance on this and if possible links to a bitcoin exchange where this type of transaction would be possible.
https://localbitcoins.com/Depending on how much of a hurry you are in, and where you are located, I'd be happy to sell you some bitcoins. If you are anywhere near the Greater Chicagoland Area, we could meet up so you could give me the cash. If you are not, then you could put the cash (or a USPS money order) in an envelope and mail it to me.

I use coinbase.com its kind of a pain in the ass to get an account setup since they want a bunch of info from you and you have to wait about 3 days to actually withdraw your btc but they are legit and the fee is next to nothing.
If your not in a hurry check out circle.com
It hasn't gone live yet but it is going to be 100% free to convert fiat to btc and won't require as much info. Very cool but might not be an option since it's not going to be available for a while I don't think.

You can't buy from there and yes, https://localbitcoins.com/ is the easiest way to save up on those extra charges.

There is another way its long but possible if you want to know more about it pm me I will send you my blog address and you can follow the instructions on there. You can use your credit card and pay around 7% if you want to use btc-e and if you want to use cryptsy it will be around 6.9%. I have written detailed instructions on that blog so pm me if you still need that info and I will try and help you as much as possible I had this same problem as virwox charges 30% on credit cards.

You can after adding credit card. They added it as another "verification" that is optional. If it is on file you get bit-coins instantly. Might have to do a transaction or two before instant and also have to verify bank account. I suggest if doing it set up a checking account just for online, I personally like having one account not linked to main checking account. Most major banks you can get a free checking account with putting in minimum amount allowed. If you have online bank account access can easly move cash to online account, then buy bitcoins . They show it as easy as 1. 2. 3. https://coinbase.com/buy-bitcoinLocalbitcoins, and renting don't have to comply with all the know your customer laws, etc. So they take much less verification (normally just payment).

Why not try buy from the Currency Exchange subforum here? You can often find people wiling to sell for market rate with no fees. What payment options are you willing to/can use? Also, what website are you trying to order from?

Probably because with $40 any kind of wire, bank transfer, or other bank payment would incur too many fees. Paypal would put the seller at risk of a chargeback.

Do you have a amazon gift card or something you can sell? That might be the cheapest way..

But the chances of the mail stolen is high..

Since you only want to buy a small amount of bitcoin, localbitcoins is the best option here IMO. Just check the site to see if there are any sellers near you.
If you are just buying $40 bitcoin, a 5% fee would be just $2, so it doesn't make a big difference IMO.

as I mentioned before there is other ways to buy small amounts via credit card and not virwox you can search for my post which has it in detail on how to do this if you cant find it PM me I have a written a blog on it too. Its a bit long as you have to use 2 different services inorder to get your money into btc-e or cryptsy. The charges are round about 7% on minin 50usd.
