Hackers access your computer then just take a look what you do using that system. While crackers, access your computer and they do bad things, like changing the password, data, etc. In other words, crackers do negative things to the system they have access. That's the difference in plain English.

Hackers are people specialized on computer security, regardless how they use their knowledge. Cracker you can find on market and aren't that tasty, in my opinion

If I remember correctly from my time at hackforums a hacker is a person who is really good at computer stuff, and making the computer do whatever the person wants it to. A cracker is the same thing but evil.

Hackers do anything that is illegal and gain access to the system and crackers are those who crack the applications/softwares to make it available free or use it for free bypassing

Hackers, as far as I was told are the "good guys", as in taking down crud sites, such as child porn and illegal porno and so forth. They don't want to be associated with the next thing: Crackers. The HACKERS are a separate entity that people get confused with All The Damn Time and HACKERS LOATHE that.
Wherein, a CRACKER is a guy who writes spyware, trojans and viruses to get into your computer to steal things, such as bank accounts, money from many sources, credit cards and passwords to sites. THIS guy no one wants.
