Downloaded a wallet to my pc yesterday. I am new to bitcoins so I did not know that it had to synchronize. So I made a transaction while it was synchronizing and that transaction was made with a request of 0.4 bitcoins but the payment was 0.5.

The question is: will I loose my money or will everything be alright when the synchronizing is over?

It will be alright after your wallet is fully sync.

"How long it takes" depends on your internet speed. Also, google "bitcoin bootstrap.dat" and download it, it will make the download so much easier.

It needs to "keep up" with the current state of the block chain, so it is constantly downloading new blocks and receives new transactions. If you keep your machine offline for quite some time, you may need to sync for a couple of minutes or so. Yeah, look for downloads of the current state of the blockchain, that is faster!

You complete the sync on your wallet and everything is fine, you can check the transaction status over blockchain.info if it's send or not by your party

You should be fine and the transaction should show once synchronization is complete however depending on your internet speed it could take a short while. I would not worry though.
