Hello Miners, My mining group is setting up a small scale S3+ farm, with a purposed 200 S3+s. We will be building out a warehouse location for the devices. We are going to contract out the electrical of course. I would like any suggestions for does and don’ts. We will be using 120 U.S. electrical power. We were planning to use wall A/C units to cool our “poor man’s” server room.
Thanks for any input. Tyr

First advice: Get 220V or 240V! Second advice: build good venting! Affiliated advice: Get SP31s!

Reason for 220V or 240V?
Greater PSU efficiency with higher voltage -> lower bills
|
Signature space available for rent.

Does anyone know how much of an efficiency variance with 240 over 120volts?

anywhere from 1 to 5%. depends on the quality of PSUs. also you arent going to have enough cooling with wall A/C units for 200 S3's. at a min of 330w each thats 66000 watts or 66kw. that's equivalent to 225000 BTU/hr. thats 15 - 25 wall/window units in order to counteract that heat generated. plus an additional 20000 watts to power those. and i dont even know if the window units would work properly for this large of an operation. if you are doing a warehouse you should use large fans blowing out mounted on one side of the building and create negative pressure.

Good point, thanks. Does anyone know how much heat in BTU's a S3 gives off?

It's easier to get the heat out, try to find a really powerful extractor that extracts 20-30 times the amount (m3) of the room. Also it uses less electricity than ac. We used an extractor of 3250 m3, our miners (5 * 30 mhs Zeus & bitmain s2) transport like 1800m3. It uses only 500 watt at maximum and we use it at 75% capacity. In the Netherlands the extractors are called softbox try to Google it.

depends on what speed/overclock you are running it at. basically it converts 100% of electricity used to heat, so to convert to BTU you can get the number of watts and multiply by 3.412141633. you should also go by the "at the wall" wattage since the PS will pull more power from the wall than it pushes to the miners (use a killawatt or similar device).

Okay, I've added the extractors to our build list. We should have at least 2.5 tonnes of A/C in the warehouse, that should give us a workable temp for the "Miner" room. The "Miner" room is only about 500 square feet.

You would need 187.5 tonnes of AC to cancel the heat the miners create, not 2.5 tonnes. Each ten miners would create 12,000 btu plus about an extra 1000 for the PSU. About 12,000 btu =1 ton. You need to extract the heat not try to cool the room. Good Luck

Getting power is not so much of a problem as is cooling. Look at this thread to get an idea for warehouses : https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=7216.0200 S3s is about 200*400 = 80KW of heat. You're better trying to vent the heat rather than cool the facility.

I am thinking about adding another one. I need to get louvers made for my warehouse dock doors first though. Look at this beast. This is how many whips you will need to run 200 S3+.

You will need a lot of capital to pull this off. Have you added up all you need?
I might suggest starting smaller with first one.

We already have 25% of the devices ordered or on hand. We already have a warehouse location.
