Rest in peace, and my condolences to the family.

Concerned that blockchain bloat will lead to centralization? Storing less than 4 GB of data once required the budget of a superpower and a warehouse full of punched cards. https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/8/87/IBM_card_storage.NARA.jpg https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Punched_card

Cool as fuck that he's being cryogenically preserved. RIP Mr Finney, hopefully we'll see you soon.

RIP.

(Is it terrible that I'm now wondering whether Satoshi will briefly come out of hiding to pay his respects? Undecided)

The world was made a better place thanks to Hal Finney's efforts.

I hope his family knows how much this community appreciates him.

Will they have a service even if he is being preserved?

If so, an address to send flowers would be good.

May I suggest a donation in honor of Hal?

Still around.

Rest in peace. We should put his name to a BTC unit, like Satoshi.

To Hal!

Bitcoin Fact: the price of bitcoin will not be greater than $70k for more than 25 consecutive days at any point in the rest of recorded human history.

Very sad day indeed.. I just thought about him the other day. I wonder why they went the cryogenics route... I hope it works for them. I agree, we should call the next decimal a finney or a Hal, but Finney has a better ring to it..

So long, exceptional person.

Hal was a central figure of modern cryptography and will be remembered forever.

RIP.  That is crazy he went under cryo.  Do you know how much they have to pay up front for that?  Easily $500,000.

He was cryopreserved at Alcor.  Whole-body is around $200k and neuro (just your head) is around $80k.

You pay with insurance (usually) so you don't need to come up with that money in a lump sum.

Go to ALCOR.org to read more about it, and how much it costs. A lot of technically knowledgable people are involved - including Ralph Merlke. (Look up Merlke trees in bitcoin etc)

RIP. We'll see ya in the future
