Another 43 beheading videos coming soon unless UN start using its power. Back then during the Korean and Vietnam war Un is a force to be reckon with.

Kudos to the Filipinos for not surendering to the ISIS. They must have seen the beheading video. They better fight to death than captured and humiliated.

I saw the History Channel documentary about Filipino army training. There is a simulation of being captured by the enemy that include real torture. It is also include shooting the target in another soldiers hand without a scope! And also you cannot graduate in the Filipino Army without being first assigned and survived fighting in the frontline against separatist muslim rebels in Southern Philippines.

Peacekeepers should be armed with heavy weapons and allowed to use weapons when they wish. Two fighting sides should be afraid of them.

Just a puppet shows put up by UN to convince the world the UN is useful.

People who are in the loop know how useless this type of bureaucrat is.

I am not sure this would do anything to enforce the peace.

A conception of armed neutrality has a very long history... Its effectiveness was proven many times. The most recent example is enforcing peace between Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic and the rest of Moldova through placing the troops between two warring parties. 20+ years have passed since that time without any shots or deaths.

P.S. And at least they won't get killed or trapped.

I understand your point, but I am not sure about the "heavy" part when you say "heavy weapons"....my initial reaction to what this would be is something along the lines of tanks, RPGs  and similar weapons designed for serious warfare. I agree they should be armed, I am just now sure what exactly they should be armed with.

The 81 Filipinos escape from being trapped after 7 hour long firefight with the rebels. But the 44 Fijian UN Peacekeeper that surrender still being held captive by the rebels.

"The soldiers engaged in a "seven-hour firefight" with rebels who tried to ram the gates with pick-up trucks carrying anti-aircraft guns. The troops later walked to safety to a UN position just over two kilometres away."
