Major new pieces of software or services of interest to all BitCoiners are currently announced in the discuss or development sections. It's easy to miss them there and they get drowned out by other chat.

A section specifically for announcements of global interest would be good. Examples of things that'd be appropriate:

  • New exchanges, credit card gateways etc.
  • New versions of BitCoin or alternative implementations
  • New projects built on BitCoin technology

New products/services that are just sold in BitCoins would stay in the marketplace section or Trade wiki page.
Bitcoin mining is now a specialized and very risky industry, just like gold mining. Amateur miners are unlikely to make much money, and may even lose money. Bitcoin is much more than just mining, though!
Advertised sites are not endorsed by the Bitcoin Forum. They may be unsafe, untrustworthy, or illegal in your jurisdiction.

I like the idea. It's already quite difficult to follow the forum, better categories like these could help.

RSS per category would be good too.

We could have a combined announcements/introductions board, since there have been calls for the latter as well.

If you found my post helpful, feel free to send a small tip to 1QGukeKbBQbXHtV6LgkQa977LJ3YHXXW8B

Most days now there are north of 2,000 posts each.

So +1, or I vote YEA, or "Bump", or pretty please, or is bounty needed, or ?

I fifth.  Finding announcements is getting difficult with so much traffic.  A dedicated section would be great.

So? What about it?

To get started now, how about an IRC channel then.
