http://www.coindesk.com/bitcoin-pioneer-hal-finney-passes-away/

The bitcoin world lost one of its earliest pioneers today with the legal passing of Hal Finney, the recipient of the world’s first bitcoin transaction and its first identified developer after Satoshi Nakamoto. He was 58 years old.

Bitcoin mining is now a specialized and very risky industry, just like gold mining. Amateur miners are unlikely to make much money, and may even lose money. Bitcoin is much more than just mining, though!

I wasn't aware that he was the first person to receive bitcoins. Interesting that he has been cryogenically frozen. I wonder if he paid for it in bitcoins? Though I suppose if he did it would've stated. RIP.

Rip. Hal was a bit before my time here but I've read quite a few of his posts and I'm sure his legacy will live on for as long as I'm sure bitcoin will.
