The Blue Crypto Award How to VoteFor patrons unfamiliar with using cryptocurrencies please refer to the Beginners Guide, below. For those experienced with cryptos, just send 0.1 UNO to the corresponding voting addresses of your favorite nominees. Please only vote once per person per each nominee, but you are welcome to vote for multiple nominees. To alternatively vote with DOGEcoins, read this post. (link)*** VOTING HAS NOW ENDED, October 9th ***BEGINNER'S GUIDE Firstly, WELCOME to the exciting world of cryptocurrencies! In this brief guide, we will only aim to get you up to speed so that you can participate in The Blue Crypto Award event by voting with your own cryptocurrency. UNO is not Bitcoin, but is a different, more scarce cryptocurrency, and it is UNO that you will need to vote with for The Blue Crypto Award. On Unobtanium's (UNO) official website, http://unobtanium.uno/, you can find 6 exchanges that sell UNO under the heading, "Find Unobtanium". This is the simplest way to get your own UNO and use it to vote in The Blue Crypto Award. Even better, though, you can secure your own wallet on your own device using the wallet downloads on the same website found under the heading, "Store Unobtanium", and best secure your UNO, however you've purchased it. Thank you for joining the expanding Unobtanium Community!!! Best wishes.

This is awesome. In the true sense of the word.
The more I think on the subject of "The Blue Crypto Award" the more speechless and awestruck I become. This is a powerful idea.
Any crypto community is welcome and encouraged to join up in this quest.
Help us find the people who are creating a better world.
Crypto can be a tool to help fund and advance the ideas and inventions of the world brightest minds. Think TED going supernova!
The focus seems to be on young new inventors, kids are naturally creative, and crypto can become a tool that encourages, allows, and promotes young genius to create.
No longer will there be a barrier between invention and finance, were the 'money' decides what gets funded. You and me, WE, can now do the selecting and funding by way of crypto.
Help create a world were anyone, anywhere, or any age or social rank can invent. And if the idea is good, then anyone, anywhere with an internet connection can help fund that invention.

Thank you guys for the kind interest! Let's keep this party rolling by spreading the word far and wide! My role is limited to coordination, funding, vision, nominee processing, vote tallying, BCT thread interaction, website work, and other management, so please consider taking the initiative for all kinds of outreach, like posting on other forums, advertising/promotion, donations, emails, word-of-mouth, etc. This will be as big as whatever effort we put into it. Please consider getting involved per FallingKnife's Blue Crypto Award comments here, especially by starting our promotion on Reddit and Twitter and cryptocointalk.com. We know we still need some help with that. V500 is already helping us big time in getting the word out, BTW, our PR guy! When all the cryptos out there including BTC are struggling, we will still have the biggest party on the block!

here some guidelines for suggesting nominees:
-the nominee has to be an inventor, scientist or artist (preferably of young age). -we will accept nominees whos invention or discovery was made within this decade. -the invention/innovation made by the person has to be beneficial to humanity/ human collective evolution. -There should be a broad consensus about the beneficial nature of the nominees' innovation. Please avoid controversal candidates. -The innovation of the nominee has to be one that is beneficial for the ecosystem or to better the life of people. -Scientific advancements are preferred, but even artwork may be considered for approval as nominee accomplishments, if it has successfully improved the broader reach of Humanity. -we wil award only individuals or small groups of private people. We will not award companies, universities or other institutions. We will also not award the super famous/rich.
Everyone can make suggestions for nominees as long as they fullfil the above requirements. We'll probably put a limit for suggestions of three for each person. Feel free to send your suggestions to benefactor.

I would like posthumously nominate one of my personal heros who contributed significantly to humanity by contributing to two highly important technology tools that contribute to our freedom and our personal privacy: PGP and Bitcoin. I nominate Hal Finney.http://www.nytimes.com/2014/08/31/business/hal-finney-cryptographer-and-bitcoin-pioneer-dies-at-58.html?_r=0He contributed to a more secure world through his work on PGP encryption, and his pioneering work with Satoshi on Bitcoin has lead to this remarkable cryptoeconomy. He was visionary. He didn't need to be the lead developer, and was happy to contribute to projects he felt were important even if his own ego wasn't always front and center, as long as they matched his values. ALS robbed the world of Finney's genius last week. Should he win, and if his Widow is unwilling or unable to accept the award, I would encourage the community to give it to the ALS Foundation.

Benefactor, I am prone to over-scheduling. My present load is optimal -- but Blue Crypto is just the perfect promotional tool, so I will post links in my travels.
And your thoughts on this: I am tres ignorant about smartphones; but while developing Another Coin, I cruised through a dozen android-enthusiasts' sites, and was struck by how little info about Bitcoin there is -- let alone altcoins. But these guys are surely likely adopters? M

I can't say that I understand what you're asking, but android users would be a HUGE new market sector. I've had 3 CPU's since I did some USB Erupter mining a year ago, and have never figured out how to mine with scrypt, so I'm clueless about programming android stuff. We should probably all switch to linux, anyway, as far as I've heard.

theyflyblog.com entry from 8 Sep 2014 has this to say with link to google science fair 2014 site: "...along with all of the misuse of technology, etc., there are the inevitable hopeful signs, such as this teenage scientist who’s revolutionizing cancer detection and this 17-year-old girl who’s pioneering water purification and energy production technology. You can learn more about many of today’s young, creative and inventive people who are inheriting the mess that their predecessors have made here https://www.googlesciencefair.com/en/ " Maybe a crypto champion in the bunch?

+2 nominee Seans Outpost is committed to homeless outreach, dedicated to finding lasting solutions to hunger, homelessness, and poverty. Powered by bitcoin. [soon perhaps powered by UNO too] -- re: Hal Finney +2 nominee note: I move not to donate to ALS in this case. First, ALS has had a phenomenal year in gaining public awareness and if we contribute it will be a very minor drop into a rather large bucket. Second, although I don't know my guess is that Hal Finney has raised a significant amount of charitable donations for ALS. I suggest instead to celebrate his contributions to cryptography by granting a Hal Finney scholarship for promising college students in cryptographic studies, or fund a Hal Finney video recorded lecture series by leading cryptographic researchers that will be both available to students and the public. Hal Finney representatives (family/friends) can help guide or suggest cryptographic education programs that he may have liked/supported.

Here's a thought: If anyone has brilliant "million-dollar ideas" that they don't want to pursue, they can just drop them in this thread as well. I get them all the time. Here's my latest: 3-D Casts As far as I know, 3-D printing can come up with some strong ceramics even for things like wrenches, but alloy metals can't really be poured for complex shapes by 3-D printers. Well, stress no more!!! 3-D printing technology CAN certainly be used to form complex ceramic moulds, and then molten metals and alloys can be cast into them! You can still call them "3-D Casts". You're welcome!

Anyway, it seems pretty clear the inventor of 3-D technology was Chuck Hill. http://www.cnn.com/2014/02/13/tech/innovation/the-night-i-invented-3d-printing-chuck-hall/https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/3D_printingSince we have cryptocurrency pioneer Hal Finney (posthumous) as a nominee this year, honoring his work, and being the 1st year of The Blue Crypto Awards, where we can include nominees who have contributed to Humanity from earlier than just the last 12 months, I'd like to include Chuck Hill as a nominee as well. 3-D technology is growing most impressively over the last few years. Full houses are even created these days with overhead cranes as part of 3-D creations! While we want to encourage the youth with the 'Award, it's clear that we do have a 2nd group of nominees this year that perhaps I may refer to as 'legacy nominees'. I know of Geoff Lawton, a well-respected permaculture innovator that I'd like to add into this legacy nominee class as well. http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=Geoff+Lawton"Greening the Desert": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K1rKDXuZ8C0Earlier in discussions on this project, we decided there would only be a single, winner-take-all 100 UNO award this year, so we will simply have the 'legacy nominees' mixed with the younger inventor/innovator nominees this year. I hope this is ok with everyone, as this is a community project. Please feel free to discuss this project, inventors, innovators, and inventions on this thread. I'd be stoked to see more community discussion! Ask questions, whatever you please! Above all, please help us to find and discuss additional nominees!!! Nominee additions end after October 4th. Thank you.

Now Fully Insured!!!I'm very pleased to report that The 2014 Blue Crypto Award is now 100% fully insured this year! FallingKnife has agreed to hold 100 UNO of my own funds, (not to be confused with the actual 100-UNO award for this year, which I still hold,) for the express purpose of making it available, should the Award fund be unavailable for whatever reason. Like a network effect, that's twice the security for the 'Award! Once we are able to contact the winning nominee and I send the 100-UNO award, FallingKnife will return my 100 UNO to myself. Pretty awesome, huh? As far as I know, this 'insurance' is also a novel practice! We are pioneers in the use of our Unobtanium cryptocurrency! Cutting-edge stuff!

Am I allowed a second nomination? If so I would nominate Shin Dong-hyuk http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shin_Dong-hyukHe is a North Korean defector and activist. Shin has been described as the world's "single strongest voice" on the atrocities inside North Korean camps by a member of the United Nations' first commission of inquiry into human rights abuses of North Korea.

Anyone can definitely recommend up to 3 nominees; if you have a really good one, you can even recommend more!! We have a capacity for 100 nominees, the way I set things up. Now, hmm..., we haven't rejected a nominee, yet.... Well, firstly, our nominee recommendation and guidance is here on the 'Award website, or scroll down to the bottom of the 1st post here in this thread. The 2014 Blue Crypto Award is intended for more of a science/technology crop of nominees, focusing on invention, but also of innovation of inventions and ideas. Has Shin Dong-hyuk utilized new technology in broadcasting his fight, which benefits Humanity above and beyond the technology used by other activists? If Shin Dong-hyuk is to be included this year under the artist exception, how different is his activist 'art' from other activists's? See how much of a stretch this is? We aren't saying Mr. Shin isn't deserving of an award, but this is too much of an outlier beyond our class of nominees this year. We do hope to have additional 'Award categories next year, of which I hope we include one just for 'heros'.

Ok, maybe he's worthy, but is not a good fit with the established criteria. I'll withdraw the nomination, and may re-nominate him next year.

History was made, yesterday, when someone voted for Hal Finney, as evidenced on Unobtanium's block #488834. This was the 1st vote ever cast in a public vote on a blockchain in Human history. Congratulations!

Free Votes!!! I have decided to have an UNO giveaway to encourage people to vote for their favorite nominees!!! I'm keeping this relatively low-key, so I'm only mentioning it in this little post. I guess most people are pretty busy and might miss this. Let the 'readers' among us benefit! Thirty - 0.31 UNO 'gifts' will be sent to the first 30 people who post their valid UNO addresses in this thread. (Signatures do not count.) This project isn't about the money, it's much bigger than that, (and 0.1 UNO, less than a $USD quarter, per vote is very nominal, anyway, but large enough to help keep the project going next year.) This project is about public voting on a blockchain, innovative use of cryptocurrencies, best management practices, and concept demonstration. Please, please, please use this gift to vote (0.1 UNO each) for 3 nominees on our list for The Blue Crypto Award. Thank you. Note: This giveaway is, again, out of my own pocket, and project funds are not being used for it. With the 'trustless' cryptocurrency system, people may not actually use the gifts to vote, so it would therefore be a poor management practice to use project funds.

curious, how do you prevent double voting? Also, hasn't blockchain voting already been happening with people voting coins onto exchanges?

curious, how do you prevent double voting? Also, hasn't blockchain voting already been happening with people voting coins onto exchanges?
Awe, man. I didn't think about that. I actually did some research and checked for articles and even specific 'voting' alt coins to support my claim. Well, look at it this way: Those votes are only one each on different blockchains*. Essentially a public vote or election has multiple addresses on a single blockchain, and this should be the normal mode once blockchain voting becomes prevalent. Further, we are voting for PEOPLE, and that's a huge difference. *You can even disqualify that method, due to the great variability between the various networks and their security, especially, as one vote on each carries very unequal aquisition costs, etc. A principle in public votes and elections is equality per each vote. This whole project is most similar to the "elections" of the future. As for the double voting, our public vote is crude and doesn't protect against that, (except possibly if we can identify one source address that is used twice for the same nominee, but exchanges may use one address for multiple people, nullifying that disqualification, too. We've actually worked through this before starting, and there isn't much we can do with such a simple voting method.) I've just mentioned in another post that the wonderful thing about this project is that it doesn't matter in our case, since each nominee deserves the award. - Hopefully, in future years, we can eliminate this, regardless, and up the ante for quality public voting methodologies. For example, a system can distribute unique numbers up to 9999 from unique registrants, who then add that nominal amount of UNO to the end of their 9-digit vote: 0.010001234 UNO, for next year's perhaps 0.01 UNO votes, for example. (Still not perfect, as I see ways around it, but much better.) Additional improvements can be made, including making the process user-friendly, especially perhaps with more funding.

What is uno? Never heard.. Is it like the card game? Lol Hi Promojo, That's great! Welcome and thanks for asking. We had hoped to reach Un-newbies. UNO is a sha256 pow cryptocurrency with unique characteristics. It was fairly launched in 2013. It's nearly a year old. No premine. No instamine. It's rare, only 250k will ever be mined in 300 years. 190k exist, and the reward is halving against next month, so it's rare and getting rarer. This has made Uno very stable, and your holdings are not continually eroded away with a constant influx of new coins from mining or POS. Uno is well supported with great devs, great community, great exchanges, and even a growing merchant base. If you're tired of scam coins or coins that can't hold their community past the first pump, we hope you'll check out Uno. The Blue Crypto Award is a grassroots effort by the community, which organized everything and donated the award. If you're tired of scam coins or coins that can't hold their community past the first pump, we hope you'll check out Uno. We have fun, don't take ourselves too seriously, even as we are very serious about the future of Uno.

*** VOTING HAS ENDED ***
Voting has ended early, on October 9th, instead of the listed October 16th, as there hasn't been any new votes for 9 days, and this will allow much more time to contact the winning nominee and put together an award presentation for UNO's birthday on the 18th.
Strikethrough has been added to voting addresses, as they should no longer be used, since voting has ended. Anyone can still use the voting addresses on an UNO explorer to see the votes for themselves!
Stay tuned for the announcement of the winning nominee on UNO's birthday, Saturday, October 18th (PDT)!!!
A hearty THANK YOU to all who have participated by voting!!!

I just want to post an update on our processing a donation to Boyan Slat's organization to complete the transfer of this year's 'Award.
Our community member, IMZ, has the 100 UNO Blue Crypto Award funds, and continues to go through the hoops to pay them in fiat, as they've requested. ETA: I don't have a time, but I would think we can report the donation is complete by next week. I will update, of course, when it's done.
I do intend on sharing all of my notes on this project, and I thought I'd do it this week, but I prefer to wait until the donation is complete, now.

Well, I'd like to wrap up this year's project by sharing any notes I may still have. Just details for posterity. I'll add new posts when I think of anything else.
One of the goals of the project was to run everything with 'full disclosure', really a reference to finances. Basically, we've done just that, with notes on this BCT thread, on the project website, and some scattered on the main BCT Unobtanium thread.
To close out this year's project, here's what's still left from our finances:
udonaTeAguxJ4RXs4F7ohPRbCRTrGdiSZU - 72.0 UNO.
...And also the funds in the voting addresses: (2.6 UNO total)
0.3 UNO Vote1: uVoTe1KyLjiXqrVcKoESNLZjfJRHr6XXJ4 0.2 UNO Vote2: uVote2Qd1HQAW9VygXWW97wDdcGUWpnbtU 0.3 UNO Vote3: uVote3Z4eToCGeELiocGRdm898iRLvydsH 0.3 UNO Vote4: uVoTe4V1AhosXRjn2XcqYLLTSiAj9M1REa 0.5 UNO Vote5: uVoTE5LyLrGcR5qL27czH4bV64V3YWYLNL 0.4 UNO Vote6: uVoTe6bXN6rn3r5B8M7HGoQ6g3xW5j3WuK 0.1 UNO Vote7: uVote7H6WphX1XjGBH64ruXia8rrq9EAdG 0.1 UNO Vote8: uVoTe87oocKd8pWgiew2tXRAooSm5ia3sB 0.1 UNO Vote9: uVoTe9HKckfcCYBnMGyAWRLcKkLdxAdJjj 0.3 UNO Vote10: uVotE1N5ocxFmLfL5LCQHSYAAjc42Zqc6N
That's it! Simple.
This udonTe address is the original UNO donations address for the project, and anyone can see all donations are still in there, untouched. These funds should be made available according to our stated plan, which (I think is) September 1st, 2015, for the 2nd Annual Blue Crypto Awards to be completed by 18 October, 2015, next year.
Just now, I've sent 22 UNO to the udonaTe address from my own funds, as insurance for the 21.+ UNO that are apparently lost from the Mintpal account, so, now that the 100 UNO 2014 'Award has been paid for with the 100 UNO Insurance that was held by FallingKnife, also from my own private funds, this means that I completely self-insured the 121.+change AND NO public Blue Crypto Award funds were theoretically lost. (Although I'm out 222.5 UNO of my own private funds on this project, plus additional donations that I've made to support the UNO network's websites and developers during the period, and this includes the 121.+ UNO lost, (and so reimbursed with my own private funds 'insurance',) when the project's funds were never allowed to be withdrawn from the now defunct Mintpal.)
The remaining 74.6 UNO for next year's project is safely held in cold storage.
-
None of the other alternative cryptocurrency addresses, (basically all the other cryptos listed in the opening post of this thread, including BTC,) ever received donations. I have not checked them recently, but these were all set up on Mintpal for convenience, and even at my last attempts to recover funds from there, no other cryptos ever registered a balance. When Mintpal was still working, none of these other addresses had a balance, i.e. no donations.
It is particularly interesting to note that, despite V500 reaching out to the DOGEcoin community, and our making voting using the single DOGE donation address available to them, with a method different than the voting using UNO, not a single DOGE vote was cast. ...So I can still claim the vote was done on one single blockchain!
I'm actually glad about this, however, as my personal opinion would have it that the vote should be entirely on a single blockchain, that being Unobtanium's 'rockchain'. The inclusion of DOGE was made, since the Unobtanium Community was beginning to request we expand to reaching out to them, and I've always wanted this project to be an expression of the community, not myself. Our failure to generate DOGE votes may have been attributed to an unusual spike in the value of DOGE at that time.

During the project, our group did look into the possiblity of paying for advertising, and I made 20 UNO tentatively available from the udonaTe address, but this amount wasn't sufficient for anything available at the time, so it wasn't used.
Additionally, I floated the idea of making 10 UNO available to select public cryptocurrency personalities, should they 'present' our award to the winner. This also never happened, since despite multiple people trying, we were unable to get a direct response from Boyan Slat, the winner. Of course we did contact his most admirable charity, "The Ocean Cleanup", and eventually made a donation to them under their terms.*
Regardless, those of us who contributed to the project prided ourselves in completing this project with 100% volunteers! This has truly been an Unobtanium community project, and again, I thank everyone who made it possible!
*The Ocean Cleanup only accepted fiat, unfortunately. We were all really disappointed about this, but I was determined to make a real 'Award happen this year, and especially since the 100 UNO was from my own donation, IMZ-Mark was able to accept the 100 UNO and convert it to fiat to make the donation. Proof of the donation was provided in the BCT main Unobtanium thread, the bank details of the donation payment. I also made it clear to Mark that the inevitable 'friction' of that conversion and payment was totally acceptable from the 'Award fund under the circumstances. Despite all of this, THE UNOBTANIUM COMMUNITY MADE A GENEROUS DONATION TO THE WINNER'S CHARITY!!! Yay! We did it!

Project goals reference post: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=527500.msg8696436#msg8696436Here are some unique characteristics that make the project novel: 1. 1st significant use of a crypto blockchain for a public vote! 2. 1st crypto-funded award presentation based on public voting on a blockchain 3. A Full Disclosure project 4. 1st 'annual' crypto award 5. 1st project to establish community-sponsored buy support, however token (see #8 on project website) 6. 1st crypto project to be fully insured - (more details T.B.A.!!!...) 7. Another crypto project which supports innovation and the evolution of Humanity 8. 1st project to protect it's corresponding crypto's price valuation at award time, however token 9. 1st project capable of fully financing it's 2nd year from the 1st year's revenue, alone, by design 10. (Isn't there a 10?) How did we do? 1. Yes! 2. Yes! 3. Yes! 4. Yes! 5. No. With my personally paying over twice the amount of the 'Award to keep the project going successfully, and having our 'convenient' project account on Mintpal, the 1st of proposed project exchange accounts to make goal #5 possible, destroyed by their criminal actions, AND ALSO GREAT UNO PRICE VALUATIONS BY THE TIME OF THE BIRTHDAY ON THE 18TH, this goal was unmet, greatly inconvenient, significantly underfunded (we never really got the donations to make this possible), and largely unnecessary. Part of my unstated intended management was to use the funds in the Mintpal account to convert to BTC's for the token community-sponsored buy support, but when the high of over 0.01 UNO/BTC was reached, the Mintpal funds were frozen in Mintpal's self-created criminal debacle. (The 'Award would then have come from the cold storage addresses, but these have never exceeded 74.6 UNO, which is less than the 100 UNO 'Award.) 6. Partial? This is a 100% Yes, but really I only officially insured the 100 UNO 'Award, by sending an extra 100 UNO of my own private funds to FallingKnife for this purpose. I never officially insured the 21.+ profit that was on Mintpal, although just today, I've sent an equivalent to the donation address to complete the 100% insured goal. 7. Yes! 8. No - See reply for #5. 9. Partial. This could be, hypothetically, 100% Yes, should the value of Unobtanium increase by October of next year sufficiently to make a budget of 74.6 UNO adequate for the whole project. Otherwise, we just didn't generate enough donations this year. 10.

Additionally, we also made a few extra goals:
11. Project was managed 100% anonymously.
12. Project did raise public awareness of Unobtanium, and possibly contributed somewhat to a rising valuation.
13. Project resulted in the Unobtanium community contributing to a real charity - cleaning up our oceans!!!

Well, I think I've gotten all the important notes up. I suppose I can add more, if I think of anything else, but this should now be adequate, and complete my responsibilities for The 2014 1st Annual Blue Crypto Awards. THANK YOU!!!
