Okay, I gotta post the link to the Awards in my daily travels; and so far, the ocean-clean-up array impresses me most. This is such a classy project. Ten years from now it wll be known world wide.

Here's a thought: If anyone has brilliant "million-dollar ideas" that they don't want to pursue, they can just drop them in this thread as well. I get them all the time. Here's my latest: 3-D Casts As far as I know, 3-D printing can come up with some strong ceramics even for things like wrenches, but alloy metals can't really be poured for complex shapes by 3-D printers. Well, stress no more!!! 3-D printing technology CAN certainly be used to form complex ceramic moulds, and then molten metals and alloys can be cast into them! You can still call them "3-D Casts". You're welcome!

Anyway, it seems pretty clear the inventor of 3-D technology was Chuck Hill. http://www.cnn.com/2014/02/13/tech/innovation/the-night-i-invented-3d-printing-chuck-hall/https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/3D_printingSince we have cryptocurrency pioneer Hal Finney (posthumous) as a nominee this year, honoring his work, and being the 1st year of The Blue Crypto Awards, where we can include nominees who have contributed to Humanity from earlier than just the last 12 months, I'd like to include Chuck Hill as a nominee as well. 3-D technology is growing most impressively over the last few years. Full houses are even created these days with overhead cranes as part of 3-D creations! While we want to encourage the youth with the 'Award, it's clear that we do have a 2nd group of nominees this year that perhaps I may refer to as 'legacy nominees'. I know of Geoff Lawton, a well-respected permaculture innovator that I'd like to add into this legacy nominee class as well. http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=Geoff+Lawton"Greening the Desert": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K1rKDXuZ8C0Earlier in discussions on this project, we decided there would only be a single, winner-take-all 100 UNO award this year, so we will simply have the 'legacy nominees' mixed with the younger inventor/innovator nominees this year. I hope this is ok with everyone, as this is a community project. Please feel free to discuss this project, inventors, innovators, and inventions on this thread. I'd be stoked to see more community discussion! Ask questions, whatever you please! Above all, please help us to find and discuss additional nominees!!! Nominee additions end after October 4th. Thank you.

Now Fully Insured!!!I'm very pleased to report that The 2014 Blue Crypto Award is now 100% fully insured this year! FallingKnife has agreed to hold 100 UNO of my own funds, (not to be confused with the actual 100-UNO award for this year, which I still hold,) for the express purpose of making it available, should the Award fund be unavailable for whatever reason. Like a network effect, that's twice the security for the 'Award! Once we are able to contact the winning nominee and I send the 100-UNO award, FallingKnife will return my 100 UNO to myself. Pretty awesome, huh? As far as I know, this 'insurance' is also a novel practice! We are pioneers in the use of our Unobtanium cryptocurrency! Cutting-edge stuff!

Am I allowed a second nomination? If so I would nominate Shin Dong-hyuk http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shin_Dong-hyukHe is a North Korean defector and activist. Shin has been described as the world's "single strongest voice" on the atrocities inside North Korean camps by a member of the United Nations' first commission of inquiry into human rights abuses of North Korea.

Anyone can definitely recommend up to 3 nominees; if you have a really good one, you can even recommend more!! We have a capacity for 100 nominees, the way I set things up. Now, hmm..., we haven't rejected a nominee, yet.... Well, firstly, our nominee recommendation and guidance is here on the 'Award website, or scroll down to the bottom of the 1st post here in this thread. The 2014 Blue Crypto Award is intended for more of a science/technology crop of nominees, focusing on invention, but also of innovation of inventions and ideas. Has Shin Dong-hyuk utilized new technology in broadcasting his fight, which benefits Humanity above and beyond the technology used by other activists? If Shin Dong-hyuk is to be included this year under the artist exception, how different is his activist 'art' from other activists's? See how much of a stretch this is? We aren't saying Mr. Shin isn't deserving of an award, but this is too much of an outlier beyond our class of nominees this year. We do hope to have additional 'Award categories next year, of which I hope we include one just for 'heros'.

I'll withdraw the nomination, and may re-nominate him next year.

I voted for 5 nominees, one single vote for each nominee, which is allowed according to the rules. It looks like 4 people voted so far.
Please feel free to still recommend new nominees, (new nominee review ends October 4th,) vote, and discuss. Thank you.

History was made, yesterday, when someone voted for Hal Finney, as evidenced on Unobtanium's block #488834. This was the 1st vote ever cast in a public vote on a blockchain in Human history. Congratulations!

Free Votes!!! I have decided to have an UNO giveaway to encourage people to vote for their favorite nominees!!! I'm keeping this relatively low-key, so I'm only mentioning it in this little post. I guess most people are pretty busy and might miss this. Let the 'readers' among us benefit! Thirty - 0.31 UNO 'gifts' will be sent to the first 30 people who post their valid UNO addresses in this thread. (Signatures do not count.) This project isn't about the money, it's much bigger than that, (and 0.1 UNO, less than a $USD quarter, per vote is very nominal, anyway, but large enough to help keep the project going next year.) This project is about public voting on a blockchain, innovative use of cryptocurrencies, best management practices, and concept demonstration. Please, please, please use this gift to vote (0.1 UNO each) for 3 nominees on our list for The Blue Crypto Award. Thank you. Note: This giveaway is, again, out of my own pocket, and project funds are not being used for it. With the 'trustless' cryptocurrency system, people may not actually use the gifts to vote, so it would therefore be a poor management practice to use project funds.

I voted yesterday, but apparently not the first vote
curious, how do you prevent double voting? Also, hasn't blockchain voting already been happening with people voting coins onto exchanges?

Awe, man. I didn't think about that. I actually did some research and checked for articles and even specific 'voting' alt coins to support my claim. Well, look at it this way: Those votes are only one each on different blockchains*. Essentially a public vote or election has multiple addresses on a single blockchain, and this should be the normal mode once blockchain voting becomes prevalent. Further, we are voting for PEOPLE, and that's a huge difference. *You can even disqualify that method, due to the great variability between the various networks and their security, especially, as one vote on each carries very unequal aquisition costs, etc. A principle in public votes and elections is equality per each vote. This whole project is most similar to the "elections" of the future. As for the double voting, our public vote is crude and doesn't protect against that, (except possibly if we can identify one source address that is used twice for the same nominee, but exchanges may use one address for multiple people, nullifying that disqualification, too. We've actually worked through this before starting, and there isn't much we can do with such a simple voting method.) I've just mentioned in another post that the wonderful thing about this project is that it doesn't matter in our case, since each nominee deserves the award. - Hopefully, in future years, we can eliminate this, regardless, and up the ante for quality public voting methodologies. For example, a system can distribute unique numbers up to 9999 from unique registrants, who then add that nominal amount of UNO to the end of their 9-digit vote: 0.010001234 UNO, for next year's perhaps 0.01 UNO votes, for example. (Still not perfect, as I see ways around it, but much better.) Additional improvements can be made, including making the process user-friendly, especially perhaps with more funding.
