I am sure all BTC-related businesses have already spent considerable resources on legal aspects. It would be a shame if conclusions and findings of all this effort remained fragmented and hidden. Perhaps a good first step for CLAG would be to get in touch with as many BTC businesses as possible and compile and publish relevant legal adventures to date. The next step would then involve coordination of future efforts, advocacy, and general PR.
Agreed. We are in contact with many of these businesses and hope to collaborate with them for the benefit of the community. Yankee, PM me or add me on skype matt_elias

A very interesting development and potentially a great benefit to Bitcoin. Looking forward to seeing this progress.

<off-topic> Yay! This is a great idea until someone someday comes up with a decentralized form of law. There have been historical examples of decentralized law and justice, and there are modern authors who write about how it could apply to nowadays societies. </off-topic> OP, great initiative. I wish you success, and hope you create an example for other institutions of the same kind worldwide.

Update: We are working very hard to have a substantial piece complete by this week (or... in 4-6 weeks ). Admittedly we are all very busy and we all have several exams right around the corner. I am working on getting a workflow/deliverables timeline drafted and made public so that we can be held accountable to get this stuff done, especially over the summer. I'm guessing it'll look like a memo every 2 weeks or so. But we will need to feel out the response to this first one.

Thanks for that. Just to update, it looks like the Mississippi Secretary of State approved our docs without a hitch, so CLAG is now officially an MS non-profit. I will scan and upload them when I get a chance (which may be a week or so from now). Look for an updated docket of topics on the second post in the weeks to come as well.

I'm so glad to see that someone is working on legal aspects of cryptocurrencies. That was one of my biggest concern about bitcoin. I'll follow your group closely!

From another thread: Why were they taken off their website? Does anyone have them?
Specifically CM1001 memorandum - http://www.theclag.org/cm1001/

They're there, in their room. Your mining rig is on fire, yet you're very calm.

JDBound: Here is a site that has collated together some good links to academic works on the monetary economics of free competition in currencies in general. You might need that kind of objective firepower to back the legal arguments, if it goes that far. http://monetaryfreedom.org/ click on "Resources"

All,
I apologize for the issues with the website. We now have new hosting and will be getting the problem remedied ASAP. Expect more memos in the weeks and months to come. There may also be a conference in the works....

*holds nose and subscribes* Yay! This is a great idea until someone someday comes up with a decentralized form of law. Wow there's an idea! could that be done using a blockchain thing - like storing the rules of law in a decentralized way that people all agree is correct?
